There is no statutory necessity to submit marriage certificate to the employer though almost all seek information on marital status and some basic information on spouse like name, date of birth, date of marriage etc. Certain defence organisations are known to seek the marriage certificate and for marrying a foreigner would require permission.

Submission of marriage certificate is not a statutory/mandatory requirement, for joining a company. But it is important for the new joinee to furnish his/her marital status, details of spouse etc as it shall become necessary to update as a nominee for the purpose of PF, Gratuity and other payments etc
