Dear HR Professional,
My Name is varaprasad I am working as HR Executive, I come across one situation that we are worked one Sunday due to our annual meet, that day our management told me that we are providing one compensatory leave. One of our employee take a leave from Saturday to Wednesday and he said conceder Saturday leave as Compensatory. Now my question is are we take Sunday as Leave or Holiday. Please help me on this.

Dear Mr.Prasad, In this case Sunday treated as Leave only. For availing Sunday as Holiday an employee should work on Saturday or Monday. Regards, Ramesh Rao HR-SPML

I understand in your case regular weekly off is on Sunday.
If yes, the said employee worked on sunday?
if yes, have you agreed to provide him one CO in lieu of sunday he has worked)?
If yes, Does your leave policy allow combination of CL/SL/PL with CO ?
if yes. Does your leave polcy allow leave other than CL if not to copnsider the WO as leave if it falls between the leave(absent days).
if yes, He can be given Saturday as CO and Sunday as WO and he will have to apply only for three days (Mon, Tue,Wed) leaves.
Normally in case of CL the off in between is not being counted as leave.

Dear prasad,
Greetings for the day,
In this case Saturday should be treated as compensatory off Sunday should be treated and from Monday to wednesday , he will be entitled for leave. Last but not least leave should always be granted against working days not against week off's & holidays.
Thanks & Regards,

Dear Mr. Varaprasad,
From the facts you have stated, it may be inferred that you have 6 day week pattern and as a special case you all worked on Sunday which is supposed to be weekly day of rest. If so, the benifit of CO will only be available to those who had actually worked on Sunday. For employees other than those who attended annual meet, Sunday will be treated as weekly rest day only.
With regards

If any holiday gets "sandwiched" between your leave period, it would be treated as a part of your leave, be it a Weekly Off or any other holiday.
If the holiday is prefixed or suffixed to your leave period, it will remain as a holiday.

Well, in any case if an employee need to work on Sunday that is actually a weekly off day so employee should have an option to go for compensatory leave.

Dear Mr. Varaprasad,
I understand from yr statement that yr mgt decided to grant one day compensatory OFF to those attended the annual meet on Sunday which was the weekly off day, treating it as a working day. Or it was a simple alternate day of weekly off. If it was considered as a working day attending the the meet, the employee shall be entitled to overtime in addition to CO.
