I am working as Associate Vice President - Operations (Administration) with just B.Com qualification and my age is 40. I want to do MBA or EMBA. Can anybody tell me which one is better to do with this age - MBA or EMBA with its importance and the job market.
Can I take PGDBA from Symbiosis ( I was told it is equal to MBA). or can I take MBA from one of the open universities.
My concern is - If I do MBA or EMBA, then my experience with new qualification will be ZERO. Will it help me ?
Please help me.

The only difference between MBA and EMBA is that in EMBA, a two year course is capsuled into one year, because it is presumed that you will be able to grasp things in a better and quick manner because of the insights which you would have already gained in job.
My strong suggestion is that you should go for a full time EMBA something like ISB. It will catapult you in the big league, straightaway. And recruters for EMBA freshers know that the people they are hiring are having valuable experience and thus it carries its weight.
A correspondence course is often regarded as a crap by most of employers.

Dear Manjunatha,
Your concerns are genuine. As suggested by Shatanu, ISB is the best and would catapult you to a different league altogether.
Alternatively I suggest that you can do EMBA (Part Time). Symbiosis at Pune offers it as an 1 year course which starts at 6PM and goes till 8:30PM/ 9 PM. Many executives are able to do their job and also come for EMBA classes. Attending regular classes are more value for money since the " take home" is far greater. I am sure there would be institutes near your work place which also would be offering this facility.
Avoid Correspondence. Do it only if you have no other alternative at all.

I wouldn't advise you to kick your job at this juncture when the world is going through recessionary trend. To get a job at your current level or a better position would be very difficult. Ideally you could look for an EMBA from IIM-A, K,or B or any other reputed B-school that uses sattelite communication as a medium to have e-class rooms with students who are geographically located in other parts of the country.

I suggest you to take up EMBA course at Pune Institute of Management Research ( <link no longer exists - removed> ) who conduct Vinayaka Mission University's EMBA, thru' virtual classroom mode. I am closely associated with this institute as faculty and found it different than others.
