Hi,
I am a freelancer trainer in communication and personality development. I have been employed with couple of English speaking academy. In the process of transforming myself into a professional trainer I came across a lot of dilemmas.
I had been thoroughly instructed by the owner to be in formals everyday, but I had some other perspective. I went in casuals.
WHY IS IT MANDATORY FOR A TRAINER NOT TO WEAR CASUALS?
Secondly, a confidence building trainer's job is to create a atmosphere wherein there are no barriers between a trainer and the participant. This will in turn reduce or rather eliminate the prospects of a under confident participant.
WHY IS IT UNETHICAL TO CREATE A FUN LEARNING ATMOSPHERE?
Thirdly, why can't a trainer leave tag of TRAINER and behave like one of the participant with some extra knowledge on the subject.
WHY THE TRAINER HAS TO KEEP A LINE BETWEEN HIMSELF AND PARTICIPANT ?
when his objective is to understand the participants and accordingly train them.....
Above given questions are haunting me every day and thats the reason I posted it here....what do you think, is it correct behavior as a trainer....please do reply...

It is not important what you want to do. It is important what your client wants. It is important to understand participants but before that it is important to understand their employer as well.
From your writing it appears that you have a background of IT/BPO and you have grown in that atmosphere and unable to get along with any other atmosphere. But then to sustain in your business, you should do what your client permits.
Have you not been trained on "customer satisfaction"?. How can you expect all customers to have the same psychology? There is nothing wrong in creating fun learning atmosphere. But then there is variation. Someone may not like to have fun in learning. Then why you want to thrust it on them?
Secondly, if the participants you get have high take off level, then they may not like learning with detailed explanation or even games. In one of my training programmes one participant had told me privately your detailed explanation or games are insult of intelligence. Come on get on brass tacks fast and finish off this training. I trained one MD also. He told me to squeeze day's training in just half day..
"When your only tool is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail." said Abraham Maslow. It appears that you have "one size fits all" solution. Change your training methodology as per client's requirement and see the benefits!

Thanks a ton for your valuable comments. It seems I have got much more than expected. However, you didnt address basic question about wearing casuals. I know when the participants looks upon the trainer as professional. But don't you think that creates a hindrance between the participants the and trainer pertaining only to confidence building training.
Also, I want pursue training as career but when I google "Trainers" there are lakhs of trainer available. That link is scary. I know that it is "rat race, and only one with unique talents wins." So, how do I became the "one".By joining English Speaking Classes and training the participants, do you think I am on correct track?
How do I map my career? How do I develop myself as a trainer?
I know I am asking a lot of questions, since you are experienced, you can guide me.

It appears that you have some serious misconceptions about the employee training.
When you say "casual" outfits increase confidence between participants and trainer, I really did not understand logic behind this. In my last ten years, I never wore any casual (except for outbound training) dress. Yet I never fell short of building confidence.
Are you going to restrict your training activities only to IT/BPO sector? If that is the case then you will never grow. You should be capable to handle training programmes across the spectrum of industries. IT/BPO accounts for 5% of GDP. What about other 55% (40% of our GDP is from agriculture and it is not applicable for us).
Confidence is built when you try to address company's or participants' problems through training. You should demonstrate your subject knowledge to solve their problems.
English speaking: - who told that English speaking trainers are only successful? Today TVS is TVS because they translated whole quality literature into Tamil. They trained all their staffs in Tamil. Average worker of TVS also knows the quality objectives of his/her job. Nevertheless, he/she may tell in Tamil but what he/she produces is 100% quality output. To give 100% quality output we require employee training.
The problem with you is that in your two posts, you have not asked single question on how to create result-oriented training. Your concentration is more on means and not on ends. Gentleman please understand means never served ends any time.
