This is Ash.T from Ahmedabad. I am currently working with a very large & reputed Ltd company in its CSR Dptt. as an Associate Faculty for English & Communication. Also, responsible for Academic Administration and General Marketing of Skill Development courses being offered to the community in Ahmedabad.
I am in a dilemma pertaining to adding value & stability to my career. This is so as I am basically from Service Industry. In my previous assignment I worked with Aditya Birla group in one of its telecom company in Service, Delivery Training and Quality function. So Communication, Customer Service and Training are my forte that way speaking. Then owing to cost-cutting in the telecom sector overall, I changed a couple of companies wherein in one of the assignment I was the head of call center for a hospitality company.
In pursuit of stability & a meaningful career, I quit that job and started freelance consultation along with working as a visiting faculty for English & Communication (with an MBA college in Ahmedabad). I did so for 2 years until I got this break in March-2013 in CSR Dptt.
Seeing the need of upgrading my credentials, I have cleared MA (English) 1st year and am pursuing its last year (from MGU). But as I said, I am eyeing stability & value addition to my career, I have decided to pick up either MSW or Diploma in T&D from ISTD. (1) Pls. suggest me best course of action (2) What according to you should I be aiming career wise i.e. (a) Training field or (b) CSR, given my corporate work experience of 15 years.
As a long term vision, I also plan to go for Ph. D but I am not sure how will it help me in corporate/private sector going forward.Coz I am less optimistic to appear/clear Net/Slet tests.
Consider it given that I am aiming Rs.70,000 salary level in the next 2 years.

Honestly speaking at your age career change is not advisable specially when you have 15 years of experience in a field nevertheless if your too eager and too enthusiastic for trying something new then you can go a head but then you should be prepare for difficulties.
There is no guarantee of 70000/- salary range in either case. No course, no degree is guarantee of high pay.

It is commendable that you want to enhance your qualification.
The zeal that you have shown is something worth emulating
by many who would be beginning their careers.
A PhD in English may be superfluous as you have already shown a good
command over English Language.
Had you been in the University/ academics I would have voted for it.
Once you complete your MA it should be even better.
MSW would be all right if it is distance learning. At your age you are likely to have
Other commitments and so part time/ distance learning courses should be preferred.
Have you considered SA 8000 as an option.
Any ISTD course could be good depending on what exactly you want to do in future.
According to me salary goes by mutual need, talent and market.

You can have combination of certificates and degree. First try to focus on your MA (ENGLISH) and then you can go for Dip T & D. Phd is a good option but you are aimed for 2 years and you need at least 2 years for completing your Phd (till now you have not even completed your MA). So, benefits of phd will obviously be added to your resume after 2 years not with in 2 years. Phd degree is beneficial for you just in long run.

SA8000 is one of the standards which are meant for worker level employees.
It is a voluntary requirement by the employer in the workplace to have worker rights, working conditions and management systems supporting employees/workers.
This mainly deals with ILO standards and it should be compiled with applicable National Laws.
It basically looks into 9 elements which you can go through in the website.
SA8K is one of the difficult certification to be sustained for every half year. As per the policy SA8000 team can do unannounced audit anytime.
Since it is one of the difficult certification(only 160+ companies have SA8k Certification in global level) to survive every half year there are only few scopes for SA8K lead auditor as many organisation may not be willing to get the certification instead you can do in ISO 14K, 9K, OSHAS and other stuffs.

Appreciate your zeal to gain more academic milestones. My personal experience is that no qualification acquired howsoever it may weighed doesn't go waste. I would encourage you to select a career path dearest to you and acquire the MA/Phd enroute via distant learning. As others pointed out you might not well placed to pursue full time courses. As you know there are many U'sities and Institutions which offer even twin degrees. A Ph.D. in the same line of your PG could be received well rather than of a totally diff.discipline. Alternatively there are many no.of Diplomas which are over in a year or so and it would be prudent that U should select a course at which you are comfortable, easy to master, rather than struggling with a new branch. I feel you are already over due to settle at the middle of your ultimate career path having clocked 15 years of base foundation. Having said so I shouldn't sound discouraging. We have seen people switch over jobs as frequently as possible in order to scale new heights in terms of CTC, position, standing and you should have observed in all these cases they were successful in making indelible & unassailable impression in their employers by virtue of knowledge, experience, confidence and competency gained all along. As you R in the Faculty without a Ph.D. you can't do much. I'm not sure whether still you are eligible to compete for UGC placement which is lucrative and has potential to reach your target. Side by side you should have published research papers to your credit or contributions in cols. of reputed magazines, papers. I think a Ph.D is the springboard. All the best.
