Hi All,

I am planning to enroll for an MBA from Sikkim Manipal University or PGDBA from Symbiosis University (SCDL) via Distance Learning Mode. After some research and analysis, I found that an MBA from Sikkim is more appropriate. However, my conscience says PGDBA from SCDL as it is also recognized all over India. I am confused 😕

Will you please suggest which one to enroll in and why?

Thank you, :)

What is the specialisation you are looking for? I feel Symbiosis may be the better choice of the two in case of HR.

Hi Naveen,

I would be in your place, I will choose the Symbiosis program because that university is much more recognized than SMU. I insist you try to find out a part-time course rather than distance learning from SDCL. And let me tell you that MBA and PGDBA are just tags given, whereas MBA syllabus changes very rarely and PG courses usually have real-time subjects with more importance in practical life! But in the end, it is your choice!

This preference suits mostly to your answers, Naveen. I understand the complexities of whether, which of the two would you choose. First, you need to assess in detail what you wanted - your personal opinions, inclination, I may say. Should you really like to get the burning candles over an MBA or the latter.

Secondly, see the accreditation and the recognition of its university. It really plays a key role in your professional career.

Thirdly, have time to contemplate, weigh the advantages in either of the two. An MBA has a degree recognized with a professional future ahead of you. I mean if you are targeting an applicant with an MBA against the other, which would the company make the highest choice. Good luck to you.

Hi Srinaveen,

Why do you want to go for distance learning? If you are working and have good and genuine experience in your concerned field, then these certificates will help you climb the ladder. But if you think that you will start your career after completing these courses, then I think you should give a second thought to this.

Secondly, for an experienced person, doing an MBA from SMU or Symbiosis is quite similar. From a company's point of view, if you have done your MBA regularly from a recognized institute, they will give 3 points. If you have done an MBA from another institute, they will credit 2 points, and if you have done distance learning courses, you will be credited only 1 point.

Hello,

I would suggest going for distance education only if you have many years of working experience. Otherwise, please opt for a regular program. If your ultimate choice is an online program, I recommend Symbiosis from both a recognition and quality delivery perspective.

m.b.a is better than pgdbm.coz the first one is a master’s degree wheras the other one is a diploma. i was in the same dilema few months back but i know the things now. go for m.b.a.

MBA is better its a master degree. The PGD is post graduate diploama which is done after Graduation and is not a Masters degree.

Both PGDBM and MBA are equivalent. The difference is that AICTE-recognized universities can give degrees, while others award diplomas. Even the IIM awards PGDBM. I myself have done PGDBM from SCDL. So in my opinion, it is a good option.
