I came across the term "Whistle Blowing Policy" many a times. Just wondering if any of you can help me understand what it means and how is it applicable in HR

Whistle blower is a person while working in the organisation, tells the violations which are occurring to authorities.
For example if HR is violating any law or doing irregular compliance or fudging records,a whistleblower is one who brings out these violations, not bothering that he is also a fellow employee in same company.

Whistleblower policy is a set of directives to ensure protection to whistleblowers.
Many a time whistle blowers have been killed for revealing unpleasant facts.
Companies should not stop employees from revealing at least internally (within organisation) any illegal or risky practises adopted by the company.
It may be violation of law-not following safety and health laws.
like a medical lab may be disposing of syringes in wrong manner instead of destroying them using needle breakers etc.

In private sector there was a recent case of Essar Group, where an internal whistle blower leaked a series of internal mails which purport to be certain undesirable type of activity.
What is the truth one really does not know??
This link shows what a whistle blower has brought out:

I hope this makes clear what a whistle blower does and the meaning of whistle blowing.
When a police man sees a thief -he blows his whistle.
Similarly some public spirited employee blwos th whislte by revealing internal details of wrong doing by his company.
