Measuring ROI in Training
“The why of ROI”
Training evaluation is mostly done at the easiest and lowest level – through feedback forms or happy sheets as they are called which merely capture the immediate reaction at the end of a training program. Reactions are important, but will they be enough to back up your arguments when there is a need for a greater investment in training? When recession hits and training gets the axe? It is here that measuring ROI gains significance.
ROI tells you the percentage return you have made over a specified period as a result of investing in a training program. ROI can be used both to justify the training cost and to evaluate the extent to which the desired result was achieved.

Dr. R Karthikeyan is a Clinical Psychologist, HR Trainer, Management Consultant, Writer and a Management Educator. He leads Gemba management consulting Ltd. His popular HR interventions are senior leadership alignment, first time manager's program, change management & career mentoring apart from stress management, work- life balance, emotional intelligence, mind mapping, whole brain leadership, creativity at work etc. He qualified from National Institute of Mental Health & Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore. He also holds a Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology. He has trained more than 40,000 people in the last 23 years. Prior to consulting, he worked as HR manager for Tube Investments and Hyundai Motor India. He currently runs Gemba School of HR, which is the first B-school for HR. He is the recipient of the Vivekananda National Award - 2008 for Excellence in HRD & Training'' by Indian Society of Training and Development.
