Dear all, I hv quit my job 4 years back for genuine personal reason, i have done my MBA through correspondence, and have worked 7 years in admin and hr, past 1 year i have started applying for jobs and attending interviews too, but everything goes in vain. Whether my break in my career or my age (33 now) is playing a vital role in this delay i'm not able to decide. I'm afraid that i hv started loosing my confidence. I hv to get back to my career. If i take some course whether it will help me to get back. Really need help. Pls suggest.

You have a break of 4 years due to personal reasons. That is perfectly understandable.

Your MBA is through correspondence and that has lesser value in the job market.

What I could suggest is that you prepare for every interview with care-read up about the company and be well informed about the role you can play as an HR person and how you can contribute towards the companys targets.

Continuing your education in a particular field which will help is always good.

Mainly do not loose your confidence.

Try and analyse where your could have missed out in some company's interview and plug that gap.

Surely you will get a good job.

It is matter of time.

Make your CV in thoughtful manner and highlight your earlier achievement in quantifiable manner-e.g Due to my introducing ---- I could bring about savings to the tune of Rs1 lakh for the company

You have experience and with preparation I am sure that you will be able to present yourself as a candidate who can contribute towards the organisational growth.

Best of luck.

Dear Friend,

Appearing for interviews is nothing but gaining more and more experiences in facing such interviews - what are the FAQs in the interview, what is the employer's expectation towards the candidate? etc., etc.,

By coming across the interviews, you keep remember yourself the answers which you gave and evaluate yourself whether it matches with the employer's expectation or not? which is very simple. Always don't think from the employee's point of view, think from the employer's point of view also.

Most of the interviews becomes unsuccessful only because of the salary expectation from our side. If you want to grab the job, do not demand salary much. You can say only once as your expectation followed by negotiable which is very very important. Before demanding your salary look at the market rate for that particular designation as well as whether your profile is matching with it or not? only then you can grab that job opportunity.

For example: In the present scenario, How much salary will be offered for a secretary job? Do not reply based on your economic condition. Maximum the offer would be between Rs.15000 - Rs.18000 only. Not more than that, because the job profile doesn't involve your specialized skill which would be worthable.

Secondly, studying MBA is only a supportive tool and it will help you only with your on the job experiences. Holding a MBA is only a professional qualification. In the interview, the answer which you give and the thoughts of yours should be practical. If it is so, then you are the achiever. So don't loose your self confidence, read more books on management, think more practically about the people, interact more with the HR managers, only then you will get this kind of valuable inputs, ideas, etc., because I am a HR Manager. Anything you need we are here to help you and guide through this CiteHR.

Good Luck.

Hello,
Do not lose hope or confidence. Age is no bar for a right candidate. But you have to prove yourself as a "right" candidate, right?
So before each interview, prepare thoroughly. About company, yes. But more about strengths of yourself. You have attended many interviews. So think about the pattern and carefully choose your answers.
In the meantime read a lot; not only about management but whatever interests you. Join short term courses or online courses, if possible. They do not provide much credit in the job market but provide valuable knowledge which always brings confidence.
Pay attention to your weak points as well. Present yourself in a more positive light.
Wish you the best.

Well, I am not agree with it, but yes in some context Mr Nathrao is right that the correspondence education having less value in the market today and it is really unfortunate I would say.

But time is changing and we now can say it is not true because if it is then the universities and institutes who are providing correspondence education would have never been existing today and why lakhs of students are enrolling themselves for correspondence education and getting served every year if it has less value in market?

But it is true that still people are not accepting it and the market unfortunately not showing the confidence in candidates because of CorEd...

People who are working and gaining practical knowledge and experience and have completed their education by having an option like "Correspondence Education", are more successful in the market today because of their maturity and better understanding of their functions rather than the regulars.

I personally know many people in the big companies / MNC's who are sitting on the big post there and they have completed their education through correspondence education. and few of them are in the HR department. few of them are into Sales & Marketing.

Many of them are the member if Cite too.

And Prs.Dharshini, you I believe is facing problems because of your career gap which is too obvious and recruiters showing confidence in you it because you were not able to show them your spark with your updated knowledge, high interest and confidence.

Age factor is the another problem, but this can also be handled by the aforesaid skills. Every recruiter wants to have an experienced, knowledgeable and mature person who can not just manage/ handle the work and execute it timely but can do it with maturity by showing accurate professionalism to be an asset for them.

About you Mr /Ms /Mrs Prs.Dharshini, you can also go for the relative course to upgrade your knowledge and skills which will also boost your morale and confidence that is really important for you. Because you are not the one in the world who are experiencing these difficulties as they are many who having a gap in career and age factor bothering them.

You must not lose your heart if you are not getting the positive response from your recruiters, but you need to accept and move on to face the opportunity and grab it.

Be positive, Be active and, Be Smart with today.

Dear Friend….
I suggest you to go and find some strong references for you despite of wasting time on giving interview. Why I am saying it because you have got a gap of 4 years and your degree is with correspondence which has lesser value in job market. Now a days HR recruiter are following strict compliance in recruitment process and gap considered to be weak point. So the best possible thing you can do is to ask your friends, & relatives to help you out in getting good job. Courses and further study would go in vain because of your age factor, you are 33 years old now and by studying some courses you will lost your time and money. You can update yourself by reading lots of stuff on your subject via internet and forums like this…
Have a nice time brother and hope you will not feel bad of me.
