I am PGDBM(HR) fresher. I am looking for a job. Recruitment is something which I would not put under my area of interest. I am keen to pursue my career in the core areas of HR like Enhancement of People Potential, Competency Profiling & Performance Improvement, Performance Evaluation, Performance Management Systems, Identification of Training Needs & Organising the Same, and Compensation & Benefits Management.
Having kept my areas in mind i've applied to some companies, but i've not been able to get through because these kind of posts are usually given to senior and experienced people.
I have been receiving numerous offers for recruitment, which I am not interested in.
I am sure there are many other freshers like me who are facing the same dilemma. I would like to know whether HR begins and ends with recruitment? How should a fresher who is not interested in recruitment find a stand in the industry???

I had faced the same problem 2 yrs back when I wanted to join in HR butas a fresher the only offers i got were for recruitment profile. But i accepted those and within 6 months i proved to my organization that I as an HR personnel is of much more worth and useful in many more areas other than recruitment like employee potentional and performance udgradation trainings , drafting HR stratigies for inproving the employee rating of the company, compensation management in a way which suits best to the company and the employees , ER, and devised methods for better company administration, but for that you have to start somewhere and then prove yourself, nobody would straight away re cognoze your talent , so grab whatever comes your way and prove your self so tjhat your roles and responsibilities are best utilized to benefit your company and your interests are secured too.Hope thta is not too much of an advice.just gave it as i had gone through the same

if you see the current trend of industry , HR has got more opening / demand in recruitment area, HR starts from recruitment but it has no end.
To start with you can get in to recruitment, there is a lot to learn in recruitment only , afterwards you can gradually get in to the generalist profile.

Plz understand that HR is a cycle which starts with recruitment,training and development,performance management ,Employee greivences and strategic HR roles.
To understand the basics of HR u have to start with recruitments so that u understand the roles,functions their importance in the business and the right kind of people u should look for because they r the face of ur company.

Recruitment is the most important part of HR. if you will be proficient in recruitment you can get a job in core hr easily but if you will have knowledge in salary admin its a bit difficult.
Presently core HR includes recruitment, greater focus on future skill inventory, training & development and performance management.
When we work on recruitment, we understand roles, responsibility, profile, salary structure and competencies required for different positions.
Keep working in recruitment division, one fine day you will definitely get an opportunity to work in Core/ Generlistic HR.

Yes i too agree with you. I also faced the same here. As a fresher in HR we get chances in Recruitment only, in the early stages. But HR is all about learing and implementing what we learn from the beginning.

If you can get in recruitment in MNCs or the sector of ur choice, get in. They rotate you in various HR functions after some time.
