Dear Member,
For having knowledge on hours of employment, spread over & rest interval etc. plz go through your State applicable Shops & Establishment Act. If your unit is covered under The Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 then before effecting any change in conditions of employment you should go through section 9A & schedule iv of this Act.

Hello,
Reality is quite different from this. Many companies are 9 hours working with 6 working days. And sometimes employees are made to work for more than 9 hours also and they cannot complain ,thus risking their job.
What could the employees do in such a case.

Dear Member,
First examine under which of the Act & Rules you are allowed to have OT from the employees/workers & then go through OT provisions/rules in that applicable Act/rules.

Total working hours per week is 48 hrs( Not exceeding that if exceed means company need to pay O.T) like per day 8.30 Hrs and in week end (Saturday) we can consider as Half day remaining time 5.30 hrs .

I agree with what Harpreet has quoted... in reality very rare companies follow 48 hrs thing... but I dont know y there is no action against them and the fact that employees dont want to spoil their employment stops them from complaining abt it... management feels that once hired they have every right to get the work done irrespective of time...
alas... HR professionals themselves stop nagging the mgmt abt it as they themself feel they need job..
