I like your style of giving opinion in an explicit manner. Most of the replies here are vague and confusing. Most of them are not aware of a company's corporate goal which is earning profit. So thank you for your opinion and I totally agree with you.

Management hire HR people so that HR can hire right professionals for a right job for earning much profit for organisation. By seeing this fact we can say that these are the two aspect of one coin.

Hi,
HR is the only department which deals with People. Its like its dealing with blood, bone & emotions of people. Not just Machines wihout life. So i would stongly agree that HRM deals one & only with people & not on profits.

I am fully agree with asha and abhayraj. Any business has an objective to be profitable.
Now a days we have the people centric organization whereby hiring, training and motivating the good manpower organizations can be profitable. So i would like to repeat the statement by asha-
HRM deals with managing profits by managing skilled talent pool.

effective & efficient use of Human Resources is not only a key factor to earn profits, but also acts as the most powerful tool to attract talent & to remain ahead of the competition.
Therefore, HR augments profit through proper management of its people & their careers.

I agree that Hr is for people which in turn leads to profits, which leads me to ask a question. Why are we ppl taught to be diplomatic(or in other words why do ppl think that HR ppl are diplomatic)? Your answers will clear my doubt.

Dear All!!!! It is ultimately the ends that matter. So what is the end we are looking for mere profits or worthy human resources. If you take ample care of people will not enduring profits come. Where have all those organisations gone which were widely lauded for their profits but not for their people practises? So being a HR professional, we need to be extra alert on this issue, the worth of human beings. Unless the organisation truly recognises the worthiness of human beings , the profits and the growth dreams would remain a mirage. Great organisations have people delivering great results. So is it profits which is multiplying itself or the people behind it who are responsible. Undoubtedly it is the people. remember the TISCO slogan"We make Steel Too" Thanks for raising this interesting issue: Regards KK Nair

HR business in any org is to ensure people/dept/ BU contributes to profits (which is right hire & right fire). I know lot of companie who do lot of dance & song for their employees and consider that this is whatHR is.. but certainly those HR people IQ & substance is very much visible from their focus & approch.
Each function in any org has clear objectives like Sales, finance, Ops & HR each leads to profits or create condusive envorinment for profits. if at any fails org profit leakage starts.
So in all str'gy & skill to contribute to org profits could vary from function to function but goal reamins same. Therfore HR is all about profits its approch could be throgh people, compliance, T&D but it all ends with profits.
