Dear Divakar,

This has ref to your posting on "EI" of NOv 2006 which I read today while going through the search for some topic.

As I see from your claims and aggressive marketing and yourself as a seasoned trainer, I am at a loss to understand how you can lose interest in the efficacy of "EI". What I would suggest to you is to have infinite patience as behaviors cannot be changed overnight. Trainers do their part, but to get the desired results it takes time. Hence be patient. But if your intentions are good and positive, it will touch them somewhere, sometime at one day. I have succeeded in a very few cases where participants have told they have changed for good. One couples who were not seeing eye to eye have been united in one case!

As to your second point, during recession, survival becomes very important and crucial for many companies. Hence in such extraordinary circumstances EI has to been given a go by. Or this is the MNCs culture compared to Indian Companies which do not resort to this extreme step of terminating the services of an employee suddenly. That EI is woven in Indian culture inextricably is a proof of this. That is why Indian doctors, I am told, are in great demand in England and USA basically because they treat the patients first and not so bothered about money, which is the reverse in these countries.

So, let us not jump to conclusions that EI doesn't work! There is a proverb in French which says, "WITH PATIENCE ANYTHING CAN BE ACHIEVED"! Have infinite patience and your sincere efforts will definitely pay off one day.

Hello Mr.Divekar,

Like many other write ups of yours, this also interests me. The question you have put across is very valid. However my point of view on this would be, the terminations that happen its also under certain circumstances like cost cutting or may be down sizing or may be several other operational reasons. Here as well these terminations are backed up by the details of the employee based on various parameters, these said parameters are mapped for all the employees but the rope of termination falls only on few necks, to decide whose neck it would be EI plays a very vital role as it a decision making process and the management would directly think on the cost/revenue part of the business against the productivity of the employee. these rational decisions are also a part of EI is what I feel.

And I am sure if we look at EI with this perspective then EI becomes a trait like any other leadership trait and would get more stronger and visible as one's experience increases.

I am sure we may find a lot of examples like this around us and we may also be one of these examples if we turn back certain pages of our own career.

Your comments awaited Mr. Divekar and I am sure I will be able to learn a lot from your post as always.

Cheers
