As a Recruiter for several years ( and a Corporate NON HR person before that - Engineer and a Sales background ) perhaps my views could be useful/encouraging to some here.
The issues pointed out by some here - less opportunities, internal references etc. apply to pretty much all the jobs ( except, perhaps, for commission based sales jobs... ) . Of course HR being a staff rather than a line function the number of opportunities cannot match up to - for example - in line functions such as production. But that is well known to any HR person anyways I suppose.
IMHO when you interview for ANY job ( HR or non, really doesn't matter ), the prospective employer is trying to evaluate :
- How well you will be able to do the immediate job at hand which needs to be done
- How stable will you be in the job
- Cultural / team fitment
- Price Points (salary, that is )
Assuming the opportunity / interviewer is genuine if a candidate can address above points to the interviewer's satisfaction there is no reason why (s)he shouldn't get the job.
So if you can get a handle on above aspects before/ during the interview you stand a far better chance than the other guys.
HOW to do this is a different topic altogether - perhaps for another day :-)

I agree with you. It seems Akangi written all things in frustration. And it is good for everyone for express views honestly with the people for getting out of it.
My personal experience says that getting jobs in any field is very easy if one can express himself/herself in tune with the interviewer.

I am sure this would be a case with every profession whether HR, Sales, operation and accounts.We have to look HR as a specific oriented or a need based, where one HR professional is looking after 300-700 Employees base in any company.To manage all this numbers you need to have highly competitive in your field with all know how in HR field. I have seen many of the HR post graduates stop learning after their campus recruitment or after very 1 st job, the moment you stop learning or upgrading your knowledge you are expelled from this profession.
Today look at what TISS or XLRI HR guys are getting ( If we are concerned about the Compensation attach to this profession).

I am working in future group as hr executive . i have completed MBA from IIMT college which is a average college. i was placement coordinator in my college and was working more that my placement officer for the selection of my batch mate even i was knowing i will not get opportunity from my college for the position of HR .
i was knowing and determined that i have to go in HR so after living college i have joined a consultacy so that i would be able to know 1 aspect of HR . i have worked their for 6 month and i got a chance to work with future generali in Zonal Office North Zone ..
Why i have told this story becoz we all just want to get job at top level withought struggle .
ASK few question to yourself (fob any fresher)
- Do we know how to manage leaves , do we know about PF and ESI calculation , what forms are used for PF and ESI .
Do we know V-lookup function in Excel without that you would not able to prepare you MIS report which is integral part of HR.
So we need to develop our skill and second thing we should be ready for learning first then earning ......
So these all points may help fresher for getting the job-

I totally agree with akangi...i am going through same situation..
I have experience in HR but not able to get job yet...I go for interview and they ask so many question,but at the end they say we will call you in 2-3 days and they dont call...
Really its frustrating...I am very new in this cite...Thanx...

Hi..to all..I too have done MBA in HR because i simply love HR field, but now the scene is different companies do not want freshers as they have very less vacacies and lots of options..and i had very bad experience at 1 consultancy as a recruiter as that job was similer to sales job..now wanted to shift into teaching profession as a HR Lecturer..would like to get your opinions about my decision.

Firstly just look back that why did you never get new job as you like.What were the situations as well as the reasons.Was you denai their offer or are they denai you?If the co. denai you then try to find out the reasons and make yourself a strong contestant.Shall you ever achieve any goal to make your organisation comfirt? Listen, in life nothing is impossible.Improve your skills to settle down the things.Does'nt matter that its related to your personal life or with your job.
I am just a commerce graduate and worked as HR head since 6 years with different companies like Nilkamal, Asian Electronics Ltd,Parle Group etc.I was started as Trainee, if I can get a position in HR without doing MBA or MPM then just think why you should not? Now I am working with a pvt.ltd.company since two years and even I given two interviews within last week and I denai the offer because I am getting more than they offerd.One more thing, maintain your relations with Govt.authorities( which we HR people always have to do), they can provide the opportunities as well as the references to the companies and you get the new job.Even most of the time they could plant you their for some easy going works.The simple key is maintain and utilised your relations.

Hi,
I guess everyone knows that it is not easy to get suitable vacancies in HR. Many organisations do not give HR the required importance and feel that any non-HR person can do the job of an HR professional. I have worked across various regions and have been aghast to face this ignorant notion of 'top managers' of HR department itself.

Sorry to say, but i have not written anything in frustation..i want to know the Cite-HR members views. Although these days im struggling to get a new job in HR domain, but im not frustated...im doing my level best to interact with my seniors to seek help, through their references.In HR we all know our relationhip with our seniors plays a very important role.How you communicate & express your self & manage everything.
My article expressed my views..so that i can know from which aspect im thinking , and from which aspect others are thinking.
To get a job is very easily, but to get a job as your desired domain i will say its liitle bit difficult, but not impossible.We just have to kep pateince, & wait for the right time.
