Dear Mr.Bhaskar

First am appreciating you to started this valuable post. I have no belief in setting goals. Sometime if we set a goal if we have not achieved it we feel guilty isn't it????? Goals keep you focused on something in the future, instead of being present and enjoying what you’re doing right now. Goals keep you fixed on one path, which might not be the best path in a week or a month or a year. They keep you fixated on one thing, rather than being open to new opportunities, being flexible as the landscape changes, being free to pursue something you’re newly passionate about rather than sticking to something you’re tired of. Seriously while i was studying my college i have several goal..Even after completion of Higher secondary grade i was having some determination to take this course, Do lots of stuffs using that but it won't exist for few months even few days because i don't get any opportunity or my condition won't support it to do so. But it doesn't meant that i have not put any effort. Some time we work towards our prepared goal we cannot reach it. Whatever happens... life has to go on!!

Anyhow thanks for sharing wonderful post with us.

Dear Varsha
Thanks for your comments and view on goal setting. But if you do not have any goal in life then there will not be any interest in life. You can set a goal in any subject or any target then try to make a move towards it. Obviously you can and you will attain your goal. On reaching your goal you must set another goal with next time frame.
All the best and God Bless you Varsha

Dear Mr.Bhaskar

Thanks for your reply in requesting me to write my goal(s) in life.

I have gone through the views of our members and I appreciate all the messages shared by them.

I am delighted to share my views on ‘Goals of Life’.

Before I write about the main subject, I wish to share few basic fundamentals that decide the success or failure in our life.

ABCD of Life:

The easy acronym indicates

Attitude

Belief

Character and

Discipline

The D Discipline carries the other ABCs with it in the journey of life and is very vital.

The magical word ‘Discipline’ is a behavior we follow in our life.

Without disciplining both your thoughts and actions, you are unlikely to achieve success, happiness or personal or career or social achievements.

Discipline is a magical word that reminds our duties in life.

The goal of discipline is to develop a worthy character in a person.

Coming to our main point about ‘Goals in Life’

Goals are a means to an end, not the ultimate purpose of our lives.

Goals are tools to concentrate our focus and move us forward.

The only reason we really pursue goals is to remind ourselves to move in right direction.

Achieving goals by themselves will never make us happy in the long term.

Facing the obstacles and what you become after achieving your goals, can alone give you the long-lasting sense of fulfillment.

I partially agree with Varsha, who has nicely expressed her views.

But I never say ‘Goals in life’ is least important.

Goals are is very important as they are the tools used to achieve meaningful results.

Even a Zero, with a goal can become a Hero.

More than a goal, it is the determination of achieving the desired goal is important.

Enough have been told about ‘goals’ in Bhagavad-Gita, and Thirukural.

But we have re-invented the word ‘Goal Setting’ from the West and started re-learning.

On your specific request, I wish to share about goals in my life.

I have found success in my life so far by adhering to the ABCD principles.

Attitude has made me to see the obstacles as opportunities.

Belief has given me confidence.

Character has evolved me as a human being.

Discipline has made me to segregate my goals as Personal, Career, Social and Spiritual.

With this the process, the habit of ‘goal setting’ happens by default in me.

Some of my successes I have achieved by ‘Goal Setting’ in the past are:

Love myself and my family.

Have a successful business.

Grow and learn new things.

Have a contented life.

Have good friends.

Assist people without expecting anything in return.

To help others improve their lives.

My goals for the future will be:

Enjoy the ‘solitude’ as we are all ‘born alone’ and will ‘die’ alone’ in this world.

Attain self-actualization.

Make the ‘hyphen’ between my ‘birth and death years’ more meaningful and complete..

These are my personal opinions which are not exhaustive.

I will be happy to see more open-minded opinions from members and keep this thread alive for a long time.

Thank you again Bhaskar for your fine initiative.

Regards

AVS
