Hi.
Would request your inputs on the Industry standards of compensation for HR in Resource Management role.
I am working in Resource Management domain, its a NYSE based IT/Consulting organization, NYSE listed. I am into Resource Management role, and have the following questions on which would be thankful for your observations/inputs:
1. What is the Industry standard for HRD in RM role? Indian Companies/MNC's?
2. What kind of growth can be expected in this role? Is it Ok to stick to specialization or it adds spice if one adds experiences in Recruitment/Comp. & Benefits/ etc. + specialization in RM (which one is preferable from compensation perspective)?
3. Would you prefer RM area or Generalist area, given an option?
Your inputs would definitely help me decide ..
Have a great day ahead! :)

I am not sure about the indian context , however in Pakistan , the role of a generalist is prefered in reference to the range or choices which open up as well as the compensation level. As a specialist you would tend to limit yourself to a specific area which is limiting and in case you are eyeing the topslot in an organization as ,it would also be hampering your growth prospects.

Hi,
I would definitely prefer a Generalist Role as this will give me an insight of the entire gamut of HR. I just have 4 years of experience and I am working in a medium size company but if I opt for a Tier 1 company then I have to become a specialized person. In large companies there are different departments like Learning and Development, Employee Relations, Compensation Benefits, Resource Management etc. In that you really need to be a specialized person.
So my suggestion would be to work in a medium size company for few years. Get an idea about the entire HR Life Cycle and know the core competency and then move into specialized area where your interest lies.
Cheers,
Pranita
