Dear Mr. Nagaraj,
Thank you for the wonderful presentation. I greatly benefited from it. I have a small question since Adarsh Developers is a real estate-based company. I would like to inquire in detail about the general expectations from an HR person and how an HR professional can be valuable in this industry. Additionally, could you please outline the specific job responsibilities of an HR person within this sector?
Thank you!

Dear Krishna T. Godavalli,
The real estate industry is now an organized sector and is no longer considered unorganized. An act has been passed, similar to the Factories Act and Shops and Establishment Act, to monitor legal compliance and welfare aspects in this sector. It is called the Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act 1996. The respective state governments have passed rules under this act and are expecting strict compliance.
We are developers involved in large projects such as residential complexes, villas, commercial buildings, tech parks, and hospitality divisions. We engage well-qualified civil engineers, along with professionals in legal, marketing, materials, finance, quality assurance, architecture, transport, and more, totaling 1200 employees. Similar to other sectors, we have a fully-fledged, highly professional HR department staffed with qualified HR professionals who handle recruitment, training, performance appraisal, legal compliance, welfare, ISO standards, systems, security, and more.
There is a significant demand for HR professionals in the real estate sector, especially in growing cities like Bangalore, Pune, Chennai, and Hyderabad. In Bangalore alone, there are reputable real estate companies such as Brigade, Puravankara, Nitesh, Sobha, Prestige, Vakil, DLF, Concord, Golden Gates, Salarpuria, etc.
Thank you for your feedback.

Dear Sir,
Can you please let me know what is the meaning of Hardship Allowance, who is applicable for the same, and what are the criteria to be considered for paying Hardship allowance to the employees? In our company, it is under process to provide these benefits to the employees on account of transfer to a remote location for projects.
Regards,
Nitin.

You are right, Mr. Nitin.
Hardship allowance is paid to a person who is transferred from one location to another. This is only to mitigate the hardship he/she undergoes to settle down in a new location or place. This is a one-time allowance paid while they shift, or in some companies, it will be continued to be paid as a monthly allowance. If the person is posted back to their original location after a few months/years, this will be withdrawn.
In companies where the union is strong, they demand that the hardship allowance be paid for certain jobs as well, such as working in hazardous areas. This will become a part of their long-term settlement while negotiating on COD.
