From India, Agra
Salary is the word derived fm word salt.in olden days salt was given to those workers/slaves against the work they used ro do for their masters. Hence the name salary.it is now used to define the payment which a person gets against the service he renders.Wages is similar but has its leagal references attached to it.

Hi, I read Few of the posts in this regards, and I could find that deference between salary and Wages is not defined clearly any where.I can only say that wages is a legal term used for salary. While if you go through the relevant acts the word Wages is used every where and that to the defination of wages defined there in vary as per the relevant act, but salary word is not used or defined.
So to calculate wages/salary the Provisions are made by the govt to cover different types of employments/industries under minimum wages to calculate the minimum level of salary to be paid. However those not included are to be considered under category of shops and establishment relevant to their state.

Both are synonymous. Since our laws are enacted to protect workers, term wages is used in them. Hope this answers your question.

Dear

Wages is best associated with employee compensation based on the number of hours worked multiplied by an hourly rate of pay. For example, an employee working in an assembly plant might work 48 hours during the work week. If the person's hourly rate of pay is 35, the employee will receive a paycheck showing gross wages of Rs.1680 (48 x Rs.35). If the employee had worked only 30 hours during that week, her or his paycheck will show gross wages of Rs. 1050 (30 x Rs35). Because the paycheck needs to be computed based on the actual hours worked, the employee earning wages will likely receive her or his paycheck five days after the work period.

Salary is best associated with employee compensation quoted on an annual basis. For example, the manager of the assembly plant might earn a salary of Rs120,000 per year. If the salaried manager is paid semi-monthly (perhaps on the 15th and last day of each month), her or his paycheck will show gross salary of Rs.5,000 for the half-month. Since the salary is the same amount for each pay period, the salaried employee's paycheck will likely cover the work period through the date of the paycheck.

Generally, the hourly-paid employees will earn wages at the rate of time and one-half for the hours in excess of 48 per week. The salaried employees in high pay positions are not likely to receive additional pay for the hours in excess of 48 per week. However, employees with low salaries are entitled to overtime pay.

WAGE means direct investment as labour / workmen's payment incurred for making a product or services. Salary is indirect expenses such as payment to HR, Accounts personnel who are engaged to render support services.
For example, an unit making 1000 units of auto parts, employed 100 workers and 25 staff employees ensuring support services.Payment to 100 workers is total Rs. 1,00,00,000/ and 25 staff gets Rs.2,50,000/
Wage amount is Rs. 1,00,00,000/ and salary is Rs. 2,50,000/ .

Dear
All friend are free to suggest in their own way but there is no word as salary in any labour act.
now we people has only created two words like wage and salary and whatever white collar people gets called salary and blue collar called wages but it is we who has created these two words .i donot agree with my friends who said that whoever is covered under ID act will get wages and whosoever is not covered under ID act will get wages.
this is also not correct because it is very difficult to know who is covered under ID act and who is not covered under ID act.
