ESIC & PF are with the same terms - Transfer of Employee. You can use the same ESI number of previous employer for your present contribution and filing. He can continue using the same card given by the previous employer. Confirm with your contribution credits at

Dear Mandeep,
If any employee have get smart card one time, he can not apply again for smart card with different Insurance number, So its solution is that you can register him in ESIC with his previous insurance numbers.

Dear Mandeep,
You can co-ordinate with ESI local office give them change number information. because it relates to his future cliam too. So you have to intimate them while changing any number on portal. Because we face one claim case for the same reason. They advised us to intimate in written for the same.

Hi,
If ESIC has issued to the Smart Card on his old number, they will not issue the smart card on the new number. Please check whether the smart card is with the old employer, and if not, you will have to apply once again for the same.
You have to first put a mail to their local office to get the contribution transfered from his new number to his old number, which is done by their IT department. Their IT Dept gives a call and confirms the transfer done. After they confirm the transfer of contribution to the old number, you have to show "Resigned" against his new number while filing the monthly returns. They will get the old number transfered under your company ID.
If there are any changes like family particulars, address, etc. you can edit the same online.
Hope the matter is clear.
