Dear All,



I am in the process of making organization chart for a Waste management company. Though I have all teh designations in mind, I m slightely confused in terms of who should report to whom? Following are the details of teh available job types, if anyone can help me in terms of making a reporting structure, that will be really helpful....



General Manager

Deputy General Manager (Mainly responsible for Operations)

GM Secretary

HR

Finance

Operations

Customer Service linked with operations work

Internal Auditor

ISO

IT(we are not too much into IT)

Corporate communication

Technical Workshop with mechanics, drivers and all

Admin department (which i guess will report to HR)

Business Developemnt

Document controller

PRO

Health and safety officer



All the highlighted one directly reports to General Manager. The DGM will be mainly responsible for operations as that is the backbone of our company.



Kindly suggest where can i fit rest of the designations, I mean who shoudl report to whom?



Your immediate help in this regard would be really appreciable.

Dear Sunita,
You need to discuss regarding the same with the TOP MANAGEMENT of your company and finalize it as the intervention of the management is most important in the compilation of ORGANIZATION CHART.

I understand Mr Narendra, the problem is ours is a joint venture and no one else has the real time for us. So its only my General manager who guides us with regard to this..however he is extremely busy as a persona and has left all these things completely on my descrition with which i dont want to do any injustice.....
So see if you can help..

Dear Sunita,
I can understand the situation. People from the TOP MANAGEMENT seems to be always busy. But the ORG CHART has to be finalized by them with thier involvement.
Any how, can you just send me the current reporting system of your organization i.e., who is reporting to GM and who is reporting to DGM???

Thank you Mr. Swarna...thanks alot for your help....I am sending you the current reporting chart, however I need to make some changes in that and to add few more designations.
Also, like any other thread i do not want to prolong this discussion too much and trouble busy people...so I have started making my own chart according to our requirements, will definitely send you a copy of the same to take yoru feedback....

Hai Sunitha,
Your OC is fine ,But i have one doubt ,HSE person should want to reporting Operation head which is most important to improve the Safety culture.
You dont take him under HR / Admin.
Can you tell your LTIFR.

My opinion is HSE may be under operations, also kinldy look into the BiZ development, which can be made use of under some other department rather than Corp communication. As I don't know about a clear idea of your way of working, am proposing you this Sunita.

Dear All,

My heartiest thanks to everybody who have taken out their precious time to go thorugh my problems, I however have certain plans which I would like to share with you all, please correct me if I am wrong....

We are operational on a scale of 1.5K employees and is a labor oriented company. We are taking care of the Waste managment of an entire city which is rated as one of the TOP 5 cleanest city in the world....( so you can understand how much we work)....

Now, the DGM will basically be responsible for operations which is the backbone of our company....rest all the departments should report to GM as the enablers...I was thinking of putting IT and Quality direct under GM as myself do not have much expertise in IT secondly IT is the enabler which i feel can either bloom or destry the company...a very critical division..( you see an IT guy can go thorugh anybody's system and personal mails in teh company if he wishes to)......Also, Business Development can report to Corp Comm becoz the job profile of Corp comm is initiate public awareness program, holding press conferences etc....so i think its better if the BD reports to Corp Comm...

Rest, I am still trying to work out..please see if anyone can suggest me anything in this regard.....
