Dear Sirs,
I want to improve my communication skills i.e. english speaking (oral as well as as written) writing style i.e. drafting of different letters etc.

Dear Manisha,
First always give a try.. You have lots on information/materials about English Vocabulary/speech etc in this community. You just need to pick them using the search tab and go through. i have seen some materials in this site which are very much useful.
Do check with all the material and then if you still feel that you need more of implementation stuff, then you shall approach any center who train you in English.
Do check with this link <link outdated-removed>
Still with any doubts, feel free to ping me up. Anyway All the Best!

manisha, start with simple words, simple sentences and honest experessions, don't try to imitate , think what you want to say , say it in your mind and see if you feel good and then say it loud, read english paper loudly, listen to english news and hear how they pronounce each word keep that in mind and follow, do not think in your mother tongue and try to translate , It may become sometimes humorous.confindence is the keep to sucessful communication.all the best.

There is no substitute to speaking and writing English as much as possible if you want to improve it. My suggestion would be to listen to English news, watch English movies, read lots of novels(1 novel per week) and go through English newspapers everyday. A very useful device is speaking on a topic and recording it. Afterwards, listen to it and try to jot down the difficulties. Re-record the speech with new and improved thoughts.
There are many good books and CDs available in the market(some already suggested above).
Best of luck.

Dear all,
Language learning is a skill like many other skills e.g singing, dancing and art/drawing the art. It has to be practised periodically or more often. Only then one can think of attaining some reasonable standards. The so called books, tests do not merit even worth if it is not practised. Set a goal clearly from the day one 1. to speak english. 2. to write in english.
Start writing notes and maintain daily notes. If you are working start sending e-mails to your close colleagues and friends. If you are studying start reading loudly just enough to hear your own voice. Unless practice becomes a habit no amount of reading or attending class from world class expert would help. I do not know the background of the person writing or asking this question. Being in the industry for a long years as consultant for corporates and academics it is my strong opinion undoubtedly that no mastery is needed for some one in communcation in order to clearly express what you think. As as long we are strong in fundamentals in grammer we do not want to communicate like poets or literature experts.
Especially this thought being shared for those feel that communication starts and ends with fluency in english only with bombastic expression in every possible platform. The professionals, students and working class need to invest in time and energy to acquire the skills only by practice. The so called english medium students do not at all have the basic standards in majority of cases after spending 15 years in school curriculum.
Best of luck and happy learning for all of us.
