Hi All,
I need your help on very urgent basis.
I am working with an IT company. We have general timings of 9:30 -6:30. Some of the employees sit late due to official work like client calls etc. And we gave them flexitime's of coming late.
Some other employees are taking due advantage of it, they will come at 10 a.m. and will leave sharp at 6:30 p.m.. After pointing them again and again they do not start coming on time. I told them that we will deduct your salary after 2 lates, they are not bothered.
I am in a confusion, if i deduct their salary, they spread wrong word of mouth and can even resign which will increase attrition rate.
If i don't deduct the salaries, they keep on doing the same thing again and again. Please help.

Hope the so called Project Leaders & Project Managers are not part of this late comers cartel. Some suggestions:
1. Identify the teams, Ask Project Managers to keep Team meeting twice or thrice a week in the morning.
2. Let adhering to Company policies/rules part of their Appraisal and give high weightage for these.
3. Institute a reward for the Project Team / Department for adherance to Time.
Hope, others will provide some more ideas...

Dear Deepali,
There are two ways to handle this problem :
1. Either you give them Over Time.
2. Issue them warning letter first if this works then ok other wise u have other alternate i.e. suspension pending enquiry letter.
I do hope this will help you out.

Hi Dipali,
Every organization illuminate with their discipline staff and it is inevitable to every one in the premises that adhere the punctuality.
you should emphasis on following para to handle the late comer.
1. Give them verbal waring. if they accustomed for this, give them written warning and preserve for future reference or inquiry.
2. pest a Notice on notice board about fine deduction on late coming.
3. Pest the late comer Name in office notice board, if they are habituate after receiving the warning letter.
4.Make the policy for punctuality (like every three month just indulge your self in punctuality survey and select punctual person and give punctuality certificate and also give some fringe benefit like Family movie Ticket(2 person only), Match Ticket, Family Food and beverage (2 person only).
5. Delegation of power should be given to project head and he is only accountable person for his late member.
i hope you will sure get rid from your problem.

According to my knowledge punishing the employees is not the quality of a successful HR personnel. Because everybody can do it. we must analyse the problem and evaluating alternatives . and also we have to solve this type of problems based on employees psychology.
1) Why couldn't you provide other benefits to the employees who are coming on time daily?
2) you may ask them politely and continuously about their late coming.
3) Simple trick : Close the door after 10 minutes acceptance of right time but allow them to office don't send back.
if we do like this daily employee internal tells him you are late comer. employee may got a guilty feeling regarding to his late coming. Door closing is not a wrong activity. just you close and allow them even the employee coming daily late. its looking like a funny and reap less action but it will create some psychological change of the employee. we applied in my firm and got 85% success .

Hi All,
Thanks for the suggestions, i feel giving appreciation to the person for punctuality is actually a good thing we can do. By doing this, in an indirect way, we can pass on the message to late commers that you are not in our good list.
Thanks.
