Hi, What is the Indian Law for office work timing in Education Institute running under Trust.

We have 2nd and 4th Sat off. All Sunday Off.

Our office Timing are 09:00AM to 06:00PM (Including Lunch) our total working hours is 54 in week.

Kindly guide me what we have to keep our HR Manager is asking to not take off for Saturday and work for 54 hours in a week without over time. is it correct as per Indian Working Hours Law..

Educational Institute may be considered as Establishment. Normal working hours in India 8 hrs per day excluding lunch hour ( 0.5 Hr).

In this case if the employees are working for 9 am to 6 p.m including lunch and working for 6 days week, total working hours will be 51 hours not 54 hours. This is to my opinion is not perfect. It may be for Saturday half day or may be off day. It depends on school authority's policy.

Majority Educational institute runs 5 days in a week but there are also institute which runs 6 days in a week but Saturday is half day considering not more than 48 hrs work in a week.

I have not noticed that the institute has 2nd & 4th Saturday off along with all Sundays. Therefore, total working hours in those weeks - 2nd & 4th Saturday are less than 48 hrs. The problem lies with 1st and 3rd Saturday weeks.
