Dear All,
I am sharing one incident which happened in my own organization which is a IT MNC. This incident happened in last month and i'm still in search of answer for my question. Why does this incident happened with Mukta!
Mukta is a HR Executive who was recruited by her HR Manager as a only asst. to her department two years back. In end of 1st year the company was growing and recruitment pressure was too high so one new more person was added to support Mukta in recruitment and for another specific activity the person from front office was also added to the team with promotion. So now every thing was working perfectly and Mukta got one interim hike in salary due to her dedication and good performance.
The HR MANAGER now left the company and new replacement came to the company recruited by Mukta. Mukta was on leave during their knowledge transfer and all. During that time company was going under financial pressure and management was thinking of retrenchment. All department heads were asking their manger for the weakest team member to left out of the game.
For new HR manager it was easy to decide when management has decided to minimise internal hiring process. It was Mukta who got two hike in salary with in one year been asked to leave the company with some notice. She asked a lot to management for this decision but they just given excuses saying that her performance was never a matter for them.
Mukta is still searching for her answer why she is the victim! She is so shocked that she is not able to show her confidence to others being a experienced HR professional. I request you all to think about the situation , suggest where the things gone wrong, where we all can improve ourself not to face this kind of situation in todays ethical based companies??
regards
Shivani

Hi,
I am really happy to see a response of my mail. Here are the answers:
1.Mukta was on vocational leave for seven days.
2.Yes, the financial crisis came to picture before four months earlier to this incident.
3.The new HR Manager was 3 years older (in terms of experience) than Mukta.
4.Mukta has inducted one new hire for his department as he was not having experience in generalist HR activities.
The other lady was from Front office was in a different area (dedicated for ERM activity client site employees).
This company's HR was always dedicated majorly in recruitment and both of the new members are trained in the same by Mukta (about the policies and procedures for internal hiring)
5.The company was a software and staff augmentation firm where attrition ratio is very high. So when Mukta joined the strenth of company was 65 only (in internal) and now its more than 90, out of which 70 are recruited by Mukta only.
6. Mukta was able to provide replacement in time for all the position she worked and the new hire were stable and good performer. She used to work with in the budget. Whatever task given she used to complete it by sitting late hours in office with in the time frame. Used to bring new ideas for HR department and always been appreciated for that.
7. This will be a difficult question (but nothing closeness as such).Mukta worked with the higher officer (also been a part of his hire) for around two years and continuously appraised by him "as a reliable performer of HR department".
The new HR Manager has joined before one month, who has not proved herself to the management could be how closer to the management/higher official.
Waiting for a probable answer from you.

Hi Shivani
Good Morning,
Really its difficult to know the reasons bze as per ur statement Mukta was doing well. Something clicking in my mind.
Probably may be:
1) When Mukta was working, I think that there was no any alternative of Mukta to replace so that management had given increment to retain her till her replacement. And in mind of management, Mukta's performance was not gud. Always performance is evaluated by others only. Self appraisal is also a part but depend upon individual capabilty. Sometimes we think that we are doing very gud but in the mind of evaluater, ur performance is not gud.
2) May be Mukta salary is more and new manager searched new candidate on less salary bze they got instruction to control the cost.
3) New manager may be fearing with Mukta's performance and he does not want to take chance to replced by Mukta in future so he mislead the management to retrench her to control the cost. For your information. TOP management always bother on COST only.
4) May be recuited staff by Mukta during her tennure are getting more salary than previous staff. It leads company cost so management retenched Mukta's first. Anyway every where there is SALARY BRACKET (MIN and MAX) and Mukta has given maximum salary to staff in keeping in mind to retain the employees and Mukta thinking that I retained the staff. Hence chances of retrenchment.
5) Chances of fighting with senior and effective person. They can mislead to TOP maangement.
6) Chances of Mukta's behaviour leads this possibilty.
I will think and reply in due course.

Hi Shivani,
Its sad to know that a performer throughout has been asked to leave without any reason. Through your description I feel the most probable reason for the management to ask Mukta to quit was her salary. As stated earlier, may be the Manager felt that she could get an asst HR for a lower salary & since they were already going thru a financial crisis cost cutting will be the first thing that will come to their mind.
Second reason could also be the feeling of Insecutiry / Inferiority which may have arised in the mind of the HR Manager since Mukta's performance was very good. But the chances of this is less since if Mukta was Managements favourite & appreciated employee they would not have taken such a decision only on the feedback of the Manager who has recently joined the company.
I think the reason is cost cutting in temrs of high paid salaries.
