Hi,
Some regular methods of recruitment are:
1) Head Hunting.
2) Job posting on job sites (Naukri, monster, timesjobs etc)
3) Database search on job sites.
4) Employee referral
5) Manpower consultants.
6) Advertisements on news papers like TOI, Hindu, Deccan Herald etc.
7) Contract staffing.
Hope this clears your doubts.
If you have any doubts you are free to ask.

Like most people practices, recruitment has a military link to it. Recruitment for a fee, or 'recrute' in French, was added to the French dictionary in the 18th century.
There are records showing that a private recruitment organisation started in the 19th century.
Job Centres and Private Recruitment Firms really took off in the early 20th Century in line with the high demand of people to support the war efforts in Europe.
First Exec Search firm was Boyden in 1946.
Recruitment in its truest form would be conscription and its arguable where and when that started.
