I wanted to know the soft skills and functional skills required at the managerial level. For example, a manager will have a good knowledge about the particular department he/she is in. Apart from this, if he is handling a team or a group, he must have the required soft skills needed to communicate with the employees. This includes having a better understanding about each individual and being able to establish a connection with them so that the employees feel protected, helped, and motivated. This can motivate the employees, making them feel more associated with the company, and hence they will put in their best efforts at work.

Dear Saransh,

Is your query in your personal capacity, or are you asking for your company? If in a personal capacity, then you may read books on various skills like communication skills, listening skills, and questioning skills. You may also attend training programs on these subjects.

If you are inquiring for your company, then you may organize training programs for the managers of your company. However, merely conducting the training programs is not sufficient. Going further, you must ensure that the department's productivity improves because of the training. Otherwise, the training efforts will go in vain!

Dear Saransh Chauhan,

Welcome to the Cite HR family! Soft skills are necessary for a person's growth. Your message is too long and presents a challenge for the reader to comprehend your ideas. Communication is important. Apart from that, all other soft skills like leadership, team building, conflict management, stress management, time management, and body language need to be learned. You can search in the Cite HR archives for more information.

Your concern for motivating staff through better communication is laudable. Mr. Dinesh has explained the key soft skills to be learned and the means to acquire them. The soft skills will really yield the behavioral outcomes when they are supported by the culture of transparency and respect. Both go hand in hand.
