Hi, I have joined one of the reputed consulting firms 2 months back. The company is performing BGV, and in my past, I was part of an institute 5 years ago. Now, I do not know if the institute is still operational. I tried calling its website numbers, but no one picks up, and it is in Punjab, far from Mumbai, so I can't go there to verify it. I do not have any salary details, Form 16, or ITR return as my salary was negligible to be applicable for ITR and was given in an envelope. However, I do have the offer letter which I provided at the time of joining. I also informed them about the institute's current status.

Please assist me as I am very anxious about what I should do at this juncture. The HR team informed me that there has been no reply from this institute, and the BGV team is trying again. I do not have any details to verify my experience. Although, I have the contact details of my supervisor and a few students whom I taught at the institute. Will this information be sufficient, or will it lead to my removal from the firm? Please assist me in understanding what the BGV team will require if there is no reply from the institute, and what steps I should take to secure my job at this point.

Dear friend,

I believe that you are indulging in wild thoughts. BGV is a process used to verify the information provided by a prospective or new appointee regarding their academic qualifications, previous experience in similar roles, and other relevant details. If the BGV cannot be completed due to a lack of response or the inability to contact the provided sources, it should not be used as a reason to rescind an offer to a candidate who has already been appointed based on their suitability for the position and has been permitted to join.

Dear friend,

The BGV verification is part of the HR function, and let us do our duty. We are also conducting BGV, but only 25% of employers provide feedback, even though they exist. Nowadays, most people have busy schedules, and nobody has time for extra work like BGV, which no one is there to blame or praise.

You should least care, provided all information given to the employer is true and genuine. Nowadays, salaries and wages are paid through banks as proof of your earnings, and one can verify from your PF account whether you were working or not.

Dear Aj-S,

We are a BGV agency and come across various such cases.

Don't be anxious.

Companies keep closing down all the time. Biggest multinational companies with thousands of employees close down.

What you could do is contact all previous sources working with you - colleagues, students, etc. - and try to get information about this institution, any tax receipt/registration number, and any previous mails or documents from the company. Also, reach out to any previous vendors/suppliers/clients. If you can get hold of your directors/promoters, this problem can be sorted out easily.

Please understand that a BGV's job is to verify the information given by you about your previous employment. However, if an employer is untraceable, then you need to help the BGV agency with sufficient information about the employer/employment.
