Dear All HR Professionals,

I am working in a company which is in the healthcare and diagnostic industry. The company is quite new. Currently, we are in immediate need of a huge workforce as I have recently joined this company.

The recruitment policy of the company is very crucial because the management doesn't want to utilize various tools like placement services, job portals, and others due to cost factors. Currently, we only use one job portal, and the other way is through applications received via the company's website.

These two methods have not proven to be productive enough to provide the needed workforce immediately. Therefore, my seniors have instructed me to explore unconventional, cost-effective methods to bring in new employees.

Among the various suggestions I have presented, the company is considering participating in a job fair. However, I seek additional suggestions from all of you.

Please share other recruitment methods or tools that we can explore apart from the usual ones mentioned above.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated! If anyone is interested, they can call 9820829888 for details between 10.00 am to 6.00 pm from Monday to Friday for the following positions: Officers, Executives, Assistants, Management Trainees, Processing in departments such as HR & Personnel, Administration, Logistics, CRM - Customer Relationship Management, IT - Hardware / Software, and more.

Regards,

Yashswa/Abhijeet

You can go to well recognized institutes where they seek job opportunities for their out going batch of students etc. This could be cost effective!

Hi, One of the useful sources is referral from your existing Employees. A reward for Recruitment thro' referral is beneficial. Regards Ravi.B.S.

Hi Ravi,

Thank you for your reply. However, I don't think the employee referral program will be effective because the job turnover is quite high in our company. Additionally, management is unlikely to provide any extra incentives or money to existing employees.

Please suggest an alternative approach.

Hi,

You can go to colleges and recruit students or refer to some employment exchange offices. They find the right candidates and are usually flooded with people who are seeking jobs. Publishing job vacancies in newspapers can also be helpful, but then you will at least have to shell out some cash. This would be called an external approach to recruiting employees.

Job fairs won't be cheap either if you want to go the cost-effective way. Apart from all this, the best cost-effective approach would be to seek referrals from your working staff or from the company's ex-employees. This approach would be called an internal approach to recruitment.

Hope you succeed. Cheers.

Dear Yashswa,

Greetings!

1. For Freshers, you can approach colleges.
2. For experienced individuals, you can opt for employee referrals or advertise in newspapers; the cost will be lower.
3. Internal referral and external referral.

Hi,

Employee Referrals, Campus Recruitment, and Job Portals are cost-effective ways of hiring. HR Community e-groups are also useful.

A word of advice, though - if your company is interested in acquiring quality talent, there is no avoiding investment in recruitment expenses. It's a good idea to be smart about cost productivity; however, there has to be a proper and realistic plan for budgetary expenditure.

You have to be careful here as limited options may result in limited outcomes, potentially leading to dissatisfaction and questioning of your abilities, etc.

Go all out, but be realistic.

Take care and best wishes!

Rajesh

Kind attention Mr. Yeshwant,

Hi! I am Gururaj here. I saw your message regarding your bulk manpower requirement. I have a placement consultancy that I personally know, which will charge a very nominal cost per year (i.e., Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 13,000 for 18 months with no limit on placements). If you are interested, I can send you the details. Additionally, I am seeking a career-oriented growth opportunity in your company in the HR/Admin area. I have over 11 years of experience in General Administration and also in HR. I have attached my resume for your kind perusal. Please do call me upon receipt of the same.

Thank you,
Gururaj

Hi,

Mentioning a few ways that can help you out:

1. Do the posting on CiteHR.
2. You can use free job posting sites like fresherworld.com.
3. You can join different Yahoo Groups like Hrhub, hrcommunity, theshapers, etc., which allow free job postings and are also effective.
4. Similarly, you can post jobs on Google groups like IITjobs.com.
5. You can also join Linkedin.com.

Hope this helps. All the best.

You can also hire people on a contract basis. Companies like Teamlease would provide you with the necessary personnel. The candidates will be on Teamlease's payroll.

There are also small training institutes that offer specific training in particular areas. Candidates can undergo apprenticeship training and then be considered for permanent positions.

You can also select candidates for winter or summer training with a stipend, which would be cost-effective. These options can be further discussed.

Hi Recruitment costs, but of course, there are some cheap alternatives:

1. Always ask every potential candidate that you are talking to for some friends' references. Even if the person you are talking to is not relevant, his friends might be.

2. Use relevant chat rooms, blogging, etc.

3. Campus recruitment.

4. Employee references (if they don't want to pay much, you could maybe get them to sponsor something like cinema tickets, etc.).

And then you will have to explain to your company the recruitment cost. If your company is not a BPO (that would explain the high turnover), there might be something wrong with your recruitment strategy as you have such a high turnover. Maybe that is what you should focus on.

My suggestion would be that you first bring in clarity about all the positions that are vacant in your organization. You could first form an organogram and then once you have the list of positions to be filled, chart out Job Profiles for each position. It’l be slightly hectic, but will be of tremendous use in the long run. Identifying the skills and potential required for each position will become easy and you can then opt for any mean of recruitment, either outsource it to consultants or buy access to job sites yourself.

Hello Yashaswa,

Apart from all these things, you can try to post your ad on various blogs and free sites. There is a lot of untapped potential out there. Some of the best ones are Orkut and some other free job sites.

Hope this helps.

Hi Mr. Yashwa,

My suggestion is that there are many forums similar to ours for HR covering almost all the positions you have mentioned to discuss job opportunities, such as indeed.com.

1. Go to Google and search for such forums to post a request outlining your needs. You may receive profiles, both relevant and non-relevant. You can create your own database and utilize it for your future requirements. At this point, my suggestion is to acquire candidates at no cost.

2. You can also headhunt candidates by contacting related companies. For example, if you require a salesperson, mention that you are looking for a product within the healthcare sector. This approach will likely prompt salespeople to reach out to you, enabling you to find the suitable candidate.

Hope these suggestions are helpful.

Hi,

You can go for the campus recruitment, job postings in the local newspaper/website like Sulekha (I think posting a vacancy on Sulekha is free). Put a big paper/cloth poster outside your office saying "WE ARE HIRING." Explore some other innovative ideas. It works.

I am attaching the profile of a person I know who is interested in pursuing a career in HR. If you can help, that would be greatly appreciated.

You can go for advertisements or the best way these days is to contact a consultancy. In your terms and conditions, write this as a point that consultants would be paid after 6 months and after the employee is given a green signal to be permanent.

You can even subscribe to Naukri, etc., and pick people from there.
