Effective Strategies for Managing Leave Balances for New Employees - CiteHR

I need assistance with leave allocation for new hires. Our company operates on a calendar year, offering 18 Privilege Leaves (PL), 6 Casual Leaves (CL), and 6 Sick Leaves (SL). According to company policy, an employee can carry forward 6 SL for up to 2 years. However, if CLs are not used within the year, they lapse. We allow the encashment of 10 PL annually.

Our probation period lasts 6 months, and only after this period can a new employee utilize their leave. All leaves accrued until the 6-month mark will be reflected in their balance. However, in the new year, additional leaves are added on a pro-rata basis. I am seeking advice on how to manage these leave balances effectively. For instance, if an employee already has 3 CL in balance as of December 25, and from January 26, he will receive 6 more CL, as per our rules, his CL would lapse. I am looking for a better way to manage this situation. Kindly advise.

Dear Binita,
The lave rules speaks it's naure of management is calender year.
How your company can be an exception.
Your company offers 18 Privilege Leaves (PL), 6 Casual Leaves (CL), and 6 Sick Leaves on a calendar year.
On principles emloyees only eligible for above quantum of leave on completion of,240 days working.
In other cases, employees joining after1st day of January needs to complete 3/4th of available working days., are offered on prorata basis.
You only can change in existing leave after having a new leave policy.
It is fine that your company's present policy, an employee can carry forward 6 SL for up to 2 years.
The CL leaves go lapsed if not used within the calendar year.
It is okay, you allow the encashment of 10 PL annually.
You need to fix the maximum quantity of PL that can be accumlated.
