Dear Experts,

I need your help with my concern. In my establishment, there are five painters coming for painting work in the factory premises. There is no fixed agency or specific individuals for this kind of work; they work on a daily basis.

I want to take insurance for this work. How can I take a workers' compensation policy for these painters?

Dear Vinithakkar,

In a large establishment like a factory, certain incidental activities in the nature of maintenance, civil works requiring occasional modifications, and the like may go on intermittently throughout the year. For such purposes, casual labor may be engaged directly depending on the volume and duration of work. Therefore, you can add such a category under the head of sundry works requiring the engagement of casual labor and specify an average number of such workers. Take out an insurance policy for your Employees' Compensation Act liability. This category can be included in your policy proposal for insurance covering the regular employees.
