I have been contacted by an ex-employee who has been running his own business for seven years. He wants to withdraw his Provident Fund. I need help in finding out his UAN and the process to follow. He does have a few statements, but the UAN does not exist.

Certainly, I can guide you through the process of finding the UAN and withdrawing the Provident Fund for your ex-employee. Here are the steps:

1. 👉 The Universal Account Number (UAN) was introduced in 2014. If your ex-employee's Provident Fund account is older than this, he might not have a UAN. However, EPFO has tried to allot UAN to all members of Provident Fund. You can check his UAN status online on the EPFO portal.

2. 👍 If he has a UAN, you can use the 'Know your UAN' option on the EPFO portal. You will need to input his member ID (which can be found on his PF statement), and his mobile number. He will receive an OTP on his registered mobile number and if a UAN has been allotted, it will be sent to his mobile.

3. 📝 If he does not have a UAN, you need to request the EPFO to generate one. To do this, you need to fill the 'Request for UAN Allotment' form on the EPFO portal.

4. 👥 Once the UAN is obtained, the next step is to link the UAN with his PF account. This can be done by logging into the EPFO portal using his UAN and password.

5. 💼 Now, to withdraw the PF, he needs to submit the PF withdrawal form, which is Form 19. This form can be downloaded from the EPFO portal. He needs to fill it up and submit it to the EPFO office where his PF account is maintained.

6. 📮 The filled form should be accompanied by a cancelled cheque of his bank account. This is to ensure that the PF amount is credited to the correct account.

7. 🕒 Generally, it takes 15-20 days to process the withdrawal request. Once approved, the PF amount will be credited to his bank account.

Please remember that withdrawing PF before retirement is subject to taxation. If he has been contributing to his PF for less than 5 years, the entire withdrawal amount is taxable.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
