Hi All, Is it fine to use "Please forgive me / us" in official emails, internally and in client interactions irespective if the clients are Americans or British? Please guide. Thanks, Kavita

Hi,
I knw we can use "I apologise", "am sorry', "sorry for the inconvenience", etc. but U.S. based Dr.Phyllis Davis, Business Etiquette Expert and Job consultant who works for 500 Fortune companies and was interviewed by CNN, BBC, Wallstreet Journal,etc. suggests to rather say "please forgive" since we should not be sorry in business.
But my boss says not to use it. And I agree with Dr.Phyllis Davis.
So please suggest.

It is not correct to use ' please forgive me/us' in business. Apologies / I apologize is correct usage for business communication. Most Asians translate literally and this makes them appear subservient, which is not the case.

Usage of the appropriate term also depends on the context in which it is being used. Besides "Apologies / I apologize" terms like"Kindly excuse us/ me " could be alternate option depending on the context.

In business writing the usage of words should sound professional. For that sake let it be Apology, Sorry, Excuse me, Forgive me will make the same sense- in fact they are synonyms. So IT PURELY DEPENDS ON THE SUITIATON AND ADDRESSEE and the Context and Content of the mail.
So It purely depends in you How u r gonna use these?

To ask for forgiveness is that there has been a blunder...
But an appropriate method would be to say
I understand that the (event) has caused you lots of anguish / pain/ loss and I on behalf of my (company) and also in my individual capacity deeply regret it..... etc etc..
