I joined an IT company about a year ago. After joining, I had to upload all the past employers' document scans on their website. I submitted all the documents, but I didn't have the relieving letter from my last company. So, I uploaded a fake relieving letter. However, I had left the company by giving notice and proper resignation. But the fake letter got caught in the Background Verification (BGV). Hence, I was called by HR, and they gave me a time period of a week to clear all this. I asked them to call my last company and verify that I properly left that company, but they said that I had shown a fake document, which is not acceptable.
I couldn't do anything in a week, so I was called by HR again, and they asked me to write a resignation letter stating that I want to leave the company due to some personal issues. They neither terminated me nor asked me to sign any document stating that I showed something fake or did something illegal. So, I want to ask, can I reapply to that company after 1 or 2 years?

Every company has an HR policy and may record the names of employees who have left under peculiar circumstances, such as in your case of submitting a fake document. Unless you check with their HR, no one can give a definite answer. However, I think in this case, it is doubtful whether they will entertain a job application again after 1 or 2 years. This is a personal opinion.
