Dear All,

Currently, I am working with one of the big MNCs. I joined 2-3 months ago. Prior to joining, I submitted soft copies of all my educational certificates to my current employer. At the time of joining, I submitted xerox copies of all my educational certificates. However, in the past, I edited my mark sheets, just as time passed. Now, I am afraid that by mistake, I submitted xerox copies of those edited mark sheets (not sure, but I submitted soft copies as they were). If my edited xerox copy is found, will this cause any issues?

Till now, no one has communicated regarding this. Would it be good to inform HR from my side, or should I wait for HR's response and then take action on this since I am not sure if I submitted edited educational certificates? Please suggest what I should do now.

Before submitting any documents to the HR Department, double-check them because if they find anything wrong, your job may become risky. If they find that you edited your marksheet, you could potentially edit the company's documents provided to you, causing the company to suffer. Additionally, in most companies, once you submit a document, they do not return it to you.

One thing you can do is to verify the marks on the original marksheet and then approach HR to inquire whether you have submitted your educational documents. Ensure you look into it thoroughly. If you discover discrepancies in the marksheets, inform them of the situation, apologize, submit the correct marksheet, and bring your original marksheet to show them. You can also request them to cross-verify it to identify any errors.

Thanks for your input. Shall I go ahead after HR's response? (as I am not sure whether submitted copies are edited by me or not). Moreover, can the university take any legal action on this if they found such cases? Please suggest.

Regarding university, I can't commit for you. You have to check by yourself which marksheets you have provided to them. Even if you go ahead and tell them the truth, you might get into trouble. If they come across it, you could still be in trouble.

One thing you can do is to address it at the ground level. If there is a junior person in the HR department who is your friend, you can ask him/her to cross-check it and inform you without escalating the issue to higher authorities.

I can only offer suggestions. How you handle it is in your hands.

Tell them you lost your original certificates and thus need the copies to get others and file for an FIR. And next time, direct your photoshopping skills to better use.

It is a grave mistake of the person who verified your xerox copies of certificates. However, you need not worry about soft copies; sometimes, while scrutinizing, no one will take copies. Nevertheless, forging or correcting certificates is an offense, and your services can be terminated in case it is a major mistake/major correction. Since you have already joined, you can continue without referring it to your HR.

Only when submitting Xerox copies, I am unsure of what I submitted. In a worst-case scenario, if an edited mark sheet is discovered, could legal action be taken against me?
