Dear Sir/Madam,

For the past 6 months, I have been working as an HR recruiter. I want to enhance my knowledge in HR generalist roles. Can anybody suggest what I should learn in-depth to become a proficient HR professional?

Thank you.

Thanks for your guidance.

My friend is facing a problem. She worked in an organization for one month and left the job without informing the management. Now, after 4 months, she is getting a notice from that company for absconding. She needs to serve the notice period of one month, or else she needs to pay back her salary. What should she do now?

Hi,

I believe that for an employee of one month, there won't be a notice period of 1 month. However, it is still an unfair practice to leave the organization without informing. Please check the appointment letter for the notice period.

Dear Anjusha,

I would like to suggest that you start interacting more with your colleagues in the HR function and understand the kind of work they are doing. Then, make a list of the competencies required to do that kind of work.

In addition, you may consider doing a short practical course in HR to prepare yourself for an HR generalist role.

The best strategy for you would be to request a lateral transfer in the HR function from your current employer. Look for a change of employer if your request is not accepted. A functional change in career is relatively easier within the same company. It may be challenging to pursue a career transition and change of employer simultaneously. However, nothing is impossible. You can achieve your dreams with intense desire.

If you decide to look for a job in HR function with a different employer, then doing a short practical course in HR will help you find the job of your choice. Some organizations are now offering short courses in HR.

I am a Coach who specializes in career, life, and wealth coaching. I am also a trainer and management consultant, running my consultancy under the name of Aspiring People. Aspiring People provides guidance and support for placement. We have recently launched a 45-hour practical HR generalist course. You can attend classes if you are based in NCR. The course can also be conducted online, with a few classes on Skype or phone if you are not based in NCR. For more details, you can contact Pooja at [contact information].

Best Wishes,
