Hi,

I am working in a small company where the salary is paid in cash. Now, I am joining a new company, and they have asked me to provide the salary slip of the previous month. Kindly help me with what I can do in this case.

Dear Preeti,

You can request your employer to provide a salary certificate. Explain this situation to the new company and provide them with the salary certificate along with a copy of your appointment letter from your current company. I hope that the new company will understand and accept it.

Dear Preeti,

Your Appointment Letter, as mentioned by Prabhat, remains the best proof of your CTC. Additionally, how was the information on the date and time for salary disbursal every month communicated? Did your employer send you all an email, or was it through a notice board? Were you given any hike since you joined? How was that communicated? Even though you don't need any proof beyond the Appointment Letter, an Internal Memo can often act as a document for reference.

Dear Preeti,

Ms. (Cite Contribution) has rightly mentioned that I missed the point of whether you received any increment in your salary. If yes, could you please share how it was communicated - through individual notifications or a common notice for all? Based on my experience, I believe it might have been circulated through a common notice. Nevertheless, they should have obtained your signature on cash vouchers while disbursing your salary. You can also reach out to HR and request copies of such vouchers from the Accounts/HR department. Providing copies of your Appointment Letter, Salary Certificate, and Cash Vouchers from the last three months should suffice for your needs.

There are hundreds of companies around where there are no systems or procedures for appointments, increments, promotions, terminations, etc. Everything is carried out verbally. Such small organizations can't afford to have any HR-related activities at all as their focus is entirely different. Invariably, the management is run by a one-man owner, and employees are hired and fired at will. If he likes, he may give increments and promotions every month also, and if in the owner's opinion the employee is not performing up to his expectations, he is sacked the same moment.

I doubt whether such things exist in the present case.

Dear Preeti,

If the employer didn't provide you any letter or salary slip from your previous employer, then you have one way to solve your problem. You ask the accounting department to provide a Xerox copy of the cash voucher. That is proof of your salary.

Dear Preety,

You can show your joining letter and increment letter where your salary must be mentioned. Additionally, you can ask your last employer to provide your relieving letter, including the details of your last drawn salary. This documentation can serve as proof of your salary.

Dear Preeti,

There are a number of organizations where salary slips are not provided to their employees, and salaries are paid in cash. If your new employer demands a salary slip, you should tell them the truth and provide the offer letter which mentions your salary package, etc. In this case, I believe that the suggestions from '(Cite Contribution),' 'Nirav Gandhi,' and 'Sundram' are correct. Additionally, you should request a relieving certificate from your past employer, which should include details of your last salary payment.

Hi All,

Thank you all for providing solutions to my problem. I will be doing the same. However, one thing to note is that my offer letter contains my annual gross package without disclosing all components individually, i.e., 2,00,000 (Rs. two lakh only). Will this suffice as proof of salary?

Thank you.

Hi Sundaram,

Yes, in the present time also there are companies that do not provide appointment letters, relieving letters, or any such documents that show a certain person is working in the company. I myself have seen such companies. They are mostly small-scale companies.
