I am working in a college as an assistant professor, and I am receiving my salary through bank cheques. Can anybody tell me if a photocopy of my bank statement is enough to show my work experience and income proof?

Hello Choton,
Though salary slips confirm your employment and your salary details with your current employer, if you are able to provide your appointment letter or confirmation letter, it is always safer. Secondly, the salary slip might be taken into consideration in case you do not have appointment letters, etc., only if the salary slip has details such as:
1) Employer's name (Company's name, address, contact details)
2) Your full name & designation
3) Your date of joining
4) Month for which the salary is given
5) Particulars of salary with proper deductions and stating reasons for the same
6) Signature of the authority.
However, I would suggest waiting for senior's advice.

Dear Choton12345,
A bank statement can be used as evidence for your employment and salary. You are an Assistant Professor in college. Why do you need a certificate of work experience? Why do you need a separate certificate of salary? You can make use of the bank statement if your college is not providing such documents.
I never show or carry any certificate with me anywhere. At a certain level, people should trust you. We should create our own image in such a way that people can see the certificate on our face.
Each employer should provide all necessary documents to their employees. However, if such documents are not given, what can people like us do? Nothing.
One may disagree with me.

Dear Choton,
Apart from Ankita's comments, to answer your question: Yes, the Xerox of the cheque and credit in the bank statement is enough to prove your employment and income proof. Sometimes organizations are in a hurry to acquire talent and ask potential candidates to 'just join immediately.' They consider the bank statement/cheque Xerox and acceptance of resignation as valid documents for employment.
If you decide to move on to better opportunities, make two resignation letters. Word it nicely, mention your joining date, last working date, and take acceptance of resignation signature from your superior. That should suffice.
Good luck!

Actually, I am confused because this is my first job, and I have not changed jobs until now. So, I don't have any experience about all these. But I am planning to change my job now because of some problems. That's why I am asking the seniors, if I get a better option, how can I show my work experience? Would an appointment letter, photocopies of salary cheques, and bank statements be enough for this?

Dear Choton,
If your salary is credited in your bank account, then it is enough for you to show your working duration from the beginning to the end. The reason behind this is that if you are not working, you will not receive any credit amount in your account. This makes it essential to document your working duration accurately.
Another perspective to consider is if you receive your salary by cheque from a specified bank, then your income proof is in your hands. Therefore, you need not worry about your experience certificate. If you can demonstrate that you are the best, obtaining your experience certificate should not be a concern.

Dear Choton,
You have not explained why the need arises for your query. Isn't that your present employer refused to give a certificate of experience? Normally, an Experience Certificate is issued when one leaves any organization. In your case, you are still in employment and you wish to attend an interview, and you require a certificate of employment from your present employer to be shown to them, am I correct? First, ask them for such a certificate, and when refused, then you can show your appointment letter and other documents like a bank passbook, etc. Acceptance of these circumstantial evidences depends on the requirement of your prospective employer. You cannot take them for granted. For instance, when your competitors produce valid certificates, you, without such a certificate, how can you be preferred? But still, exceptional candidates can be selected, and appointment could be reserved subject to the production of necessary credentials. Don't panic, try to obtain and give it a try. All the best.
