Dear All,

Please inform me whether an experience and relieving letter can be issued together. Many companies are adopting this practice where they combine the experience and relieving letter into one document. Kindly confirm if it is valid and legal to create an experience letter cum relieving letter. Additionally, could you please provide me with the format of an experience cum relieving letter?

Sneha

Hi Sneha,

A relieving letter shall be given when a person resigns from the company. Issuing that, he/she shall be relieved from the responsibilities with effect from 1-2-2012, etc.

An experience letter is issued when the candidate requests a certificate upon quitting. A relieving letter and experience certificate cannot be merged.

Hi Sneha,

Relieving letters and experience letters can be merged together. Most companies prefer this to save on paper and make the process hassle-free. With a continuous rise in completing F&F formalities as quickly as possible, this methodology works for them.

However, some companies issue the relieving letter once the employee leaves and the experience certificate when all F&F formalities have been completed, which may take 30-45 days. Therefore, it's easier for companies to release them as soon as possible to not deter ex-employees from pursuing their ambitions. Future employers require proof that their candidates have been officially and legally released by their ex-employers. The relieving letter provides future employers a guarantee that the person has completed all formalities, paid dues, and is not lying or forging their CV/Resume.

It all depends on a company's policy and way of working.

Hope this helps.

Hi Imam,

Based on my experience working in various MNC companies before, usually with the guidance of my seniors, I have noticed that the relieving letter is issued by the firm that informs the candidate to relinquish their roles and responsibilities and hand them over to another person. In some cases, companies may choose to merge tasks to save paper or expedite work completion.

Ultimately, the issuance of relieving letters depends on the company's policies and procedures. If you have a definitive answer, please guide me accordingly.

Hi Mr. Jin,

I agree with you, but you wrote that it cannot be merged; hence, I am asking you. I know it depends on the company policy to ensure better and smoother functioning in their firm. Moreover, it should not be a big issue once employees have cleared their no dues/full and final settlement, as they can be issued an Experience cum Relieving Letter. This is my view and opinion.
