Hi all,
I would like to organize a 2012 Safety Campaign in our Head office, and for that, I have a couple of things in mind such as presentations, videos, posters, anomaly hunting, etc.
I would like to know if somebody has some ideas on how we can involve employee participation, like some quizzes, workshops, games, etc., where there will be more interaction and participation from employees.
Look forward to your suggestions.

Dear Aarti,
Nice to see you seeking help on safety topics in our CiteHR EHS forum. Hope to see your active participation here in the future too.
Your ideas seem good, but I do not fully understand how you are going to execute these. Are you planning to organize some competition, or what? If you plan to do a competition, how are you executing this with videos and presentations? What do you mean by anomaly hunting?
I would like to share the following method we are adopting for NSD celebrations. Our main aim is to create more awareness among employees towards accident prevention. So, the following is an effective way:
1. Safety Quiz: You have already mentioned it. How to execute it effectively is the next question. Your quiz should be very specific to your plant and safety systems. What we did is we declared well in advance that we will be conducting a quiz purely based on our "Safety Standards." This makes all employees go through the standard documents again, helping to refresh their learning. Conduct the quiz either online or in written form or among a group of employees. It is up to you. The quiz can be organized for various levels of employees starting from contract workmen.
2. You can think of organizing Exhibition Stalls on Safety Standards. Like one stall for Work At Height Safety Standard and another for Confined Space Entry, etc. In these stalls, you can display all safety features that you are adopting in your plant or are supposed to be adopted for these jobs. All employees can have a look at these stalls for learning. Give the responsibility of making these stalls to your separate departments or people. This is a very good way of involving people. This time we are making permanent exhibition stalls with the name "Safety Park" for our plant.
3. You can organize Safety Play (Drama) Competitions, maybe department-wise or position-wise. If you have multiple departments, you can give the theme of the play well in advance to avoid repetition of the message being conveyed.
4. Safety Song/Poem Competition can be organized.
5. On-the-Spot Safety Poster Competition among employees, housewives, children, etc., is a good idea.
Hope our forum members will add more to the list. Once you celebrate the NSD, surely let us know what all you organized. If you are conducting anything unique, please let us know for adopting the same.
All the best.

Dear Arti,
You may also organize "SAFETY MERATHAN", starting from your head office and after a run of the city, ending at the head office only. You may ask management to distribute T-Shirts or Caps of your company for all participants of the Merathan Race.
Alternatively, you can have a "JHANKI" competition among all departments at HO if it is spacious enough.
You may organize a competition to find the maximum unsafe conditions by the employees. For this, you may make teams of employees and send them into the plant for any bound time. Every team will come with a list of unsafe conditions in the plant. The team that finds the maximum unsafe condition will win.
See if it may help you?

Dear Aarthi,
First of all, welcome back after a very long time you had participated on our CITEHR forum. Mr. Dipil has already provided a good write-up on your query. I cannot give as much suggestion as Mr. Dipil did because I am solely focused on construction.
Some of our senior members will offer suggestions on this matter.
Hope you will participate actively in the future.
Dear Dipil,
That was indeed a good write-up. Thank you for helping our member promptly.
Keep in touch.

Dear Inderjeet,
Nice to see your inputs to the thread. I would like to get some clarifications on your post. If you don't mind, please let me know:
1. What does "JHANKI" Competition actually mean? How will it be executed? How will it help in the prevention of accidents or in creating more awareness among employees towards safety?
2. I have the same question regarding how "Safety Marathon" will help in the prevention of accidents or in creating more awareness among employees towards safety. If you have ever conducted this, could you please upload or send me some photos of this event for better understanding?

Dear Dipil,
I would like to clear both my points one by one.
1. "JHANKI" means showing anything artificially with the help of a team. We may show two situations together for the same work, one would be safe & another would be unsafe. Also, there would be a person to explain both conditions. First of all, in the first situation, we will explain the unsafe conditions & the hazards. Then in the second situation, we will show the safe working of the same situation & explain the benefits. For example, one JHANKI may have two scenes of "Working at height", one without proper PPEs & another with PPEs.
2. MERATHAN is nothing but "Sadbhawana Daur". Employees will run together to show their interest in SAFETY. In the Merathan, we may distribute the safety booklet to people with some common topics like traffic safety so that people in town will also understand "how safety-conscious we are?"
Also, these were my ideas. I have never done it. Please refer to Raghu's reply; he is trying the same. He may have the photos.
I hope that I cleared your doubts. If not, feel free to clear it again.

Thank you very much, Dipil, for your fantastic ideas.
Regarding executing some of my ideas - we are organizing a safety campaign throughout the month in our offices and plants. As I am based in the Head Office (where we need to think twice about the activities as the environment is very different from the plants), I was thinking to organize:
1. An interactive speech by our managing director.
2. Showcasing the different safety-related posters in the cafeteria and having an interactive session with employees to discuss their thoughts on these. This is basically to invite employees for discussions.
3. Displaying safety-related videos, of course.
4. Anomaly Hunting - in this, we will encourage employees to find unsafe conditions in the head office by taking some photographs.
5. Theme discussions - we are planning to create around 10 teams and assign a safety theme to them for discussions.
6. Safety quizzes - I am still looking for a questionnaire/answers specifically related to head office safety.
I really appreciate your proposed ideas like Safety play (although I am unsure how feasible this is in our office); Safety poster competition (even though this activity is very traditional in our office).
Thanks again!

Dear All,
Very good ideas. Keep it up. Any innovation is welcome. Do not forget to take the safety oath. If this drive is being planned for the entire month, you can invite specialists in different topics such as:
1. Nutrition
2. Yoga
3. Meditation
4. HIV/AIDS
5. Road Safety
6. Defensive Driving
7. Food Habits
8. Occupations affecting Cancer, Nervous System Damage, White Finger Disease specific to hazards.
To add to Dipil's list, debate in favor and against some subjects related to safety. After completion, please share the details in the forum for the benefit of beginners.
Thanks & Regards,
