Start by Asking Why Induction is Important

- Familiarize the person with the company: its history, business, structure, key people, etc.
- Provide information about applicable policies and procedures, and whom to contact in various situations.
- Explain salary breakups and details of deductions, etc.

You may also want to give a tour of the facility. Consider using a PowerPoint presentation or providing a handout with a one-to-one explanation.

As you mentioned that you are in a small company, you should introduce the new joiner to each person in your company for 2-3 minutes. Additionally, provide a presentation about your company in the conference room, covering your policies such as leave, medical benefits, ESI, PF, and the company's products.

Yes, this is actually the induction where you would become familiar with the company's history, current operations, and future prospects. The company's policies and strategies will be discussed during the induction as well.

Key Responsibilities During Induction

One of the most important aspects is that you are responsible for introducing each and every employee in each department to the new joiner and helping them understand the Key Result Areas (KRAs) of the new joiner during the induction process.

On the matter of induction, from my experience in designing and conducting induction programs, you might want to ask how much a new staff member can absorb in a given time. What I mean is, the traditional induction approach would overload a new staff member with all the 'information' without considering what the main priority is in the staff member's mind.

Stages of Effective Onboarding

In my experience, we divided the induction into three stages. We refer to this program as onboarding. It is more effective because, at each stage, we address the new staff member's most immediate needs.

In Stage 1, activities would include team bonding, a concise history of the company, its policies, and organizational structure.

In Stage 2, it might involve processes and the activities in the staff member's department.

In Stage 3, focus on the organization's mission, vision, values, and expected behaviors.

Hope I didn't confuse you. Cheers mate.
