These structures enable better communication, red tapism is reduced, better supervision, better productivity....
But again the structure of the organisation depends on the nature of work and the type of industry the company is into...

Flat organisation is a type of org. structure where there are very few levels of management and there is a decentralised structure to increase employee engagement in decision making of management as well. Ideally, small organisations use flat structure to keep their management open.
