Dear All,
Last Month one of our senior employee was on leaves from Friday to Monday and resumed the duty on Tuesday. We observe our weekly off on Saturday. Now in the last month salary we have consumed his 4 leaves while as per him he says only 3 leaves should be consumed. Though he have mentioned this clause in our leave policy as well but he is declined to accept the policy just because of his dominating nature.
I would like to know from all experienced HR Gurus, should we consume his 3 leaves or 4 leaves?
Need your suggestions, please.

Dear Sunil,
Please consider as 4days leave. Rule is a rule for everyone and even if he declines tell him there is no possibility to frame different policies for every employee. Its a rule for all and no one has the rights to change the policy expect the management.
First of all i would like you to send an email to all the employees copied to CEO,COO,VP,Directors etc. that all policies for the year 2011 remains the same(If changes please specify) and these policies should be followed by every employee in our organisation to increase productivity as well to maintain a healthy environment. Any deviation from the policy will result under disciplinary action.
Then never get into arguments with your senior people. Its just an advice. Always avoid verbal conversation. Official email copied to your reporting head and his reporting head is always good. If he doesn't accept the policy tell him that policy is meant for everyone and cannot be framed for a single employee. Explain him clearly that we had to be abid to the policies of the company.
Just send him an email copied to concerned official heads that as per the policy 4days leave has been deducted from his account as he has taken leave from friday to saturday. Just deduct it. If he responds back then just simply say its the policy that we need to follow and beyond that there is nothing left to discuss.
Even if he starts sending mails don't respond, if he starts arguing with you then arrange for a meetings, put him in front of HR manager, His reporting head and any other senior level person. Let him put his issue on the table and just watch the baggings that he gets. If his ego crosses limits then issue him a warning letter. Things will set right. Don't worry friend.
