Dear All,
Today I want to share my views with you all. It is directly or indirectly related to all of us. As we all see various aspects of recruitment in our day to day work life and have ample of opportunity to interact with HR consultants (Recruitment consultant). I observed that there is mushrooming of unprofessional recruitment consultancies and they are tarnishing the image of HR profession. I came to this conclusion because of following points:
1). Most of the recruitment consultants have team of unqualified workforce. Most of the consultancies are having graduates & undergraduates because of there low labour cost. They give them designation of HR executive or consultant. Person who is neither having knowledge nor experience when take interview or deal with a person who is far more senior in every aspect you know what happen. He not only put his but all HR professional’s reputation on stake.
2) HR consultant will give you tons of resumes which is nowhere your requirements. They will search from portals like a machine and forward you resumes. Now it's your head hack to short out the best candidates from the pool of so called great candidates.
3). If you go though job posting posted by consultants on various job portals. You will understand how much serious they are and how they work.
4).When these untrained candidates having 1-2 yrs of experience under there belt join some organization. You all know what blunder they make.

According to me it's not mistake of guys who join the recruitment consultancies. It is gross mistake of owner or boss of consultancy who hire graduates because of money when better qualified guys available in market. Not only this they will not invest single penny on there training and development. They treat them as commodity of use and through. In all this process who most suffer or face the blunt is HR profession. Due to these other professionals don't take HR (mostly at enter level) as seriously. HR consultancies will not leave any stone unturned for making mockery of HR profession because of there pity interest. It is high time that HR industry do something in this regard.

These are my personal views. I don't want to hurt the sentiments of anybody. If directly or indirectly my words hurt any body then forgive me. But I have written this because I believe it is true. I also agree there are some good consultancies and some great consultants but they are like drop in ocean. I request all the members HR fraternity to correct me if I am wrong.

Hello White Eagle,
I am thankful to you for raising this query.
I do not know if it is a right cost cutting strategy from the HR's perspective, BUt MBA freshers like me have to tolerate the blunt of it. Most of the consultancies prefer graduated from anystream or even HSC over MBA's this is my personal bad experience.
We MBA's get demotivated with this act of consultancies. Head of one of the consultancy while taking my interview even told me that "Recruitment can be understood easily. So, It is anytime better to hire under grads or graduates if they have got good communication skills. It help us to cut the cost."
According to me Recruitment is a core funtion and it should be handled by an expert and learned HR professionals. But unfortunately it is being degraded and neglacted to large extent.

Yes, I agree that some recruitment agencies are playing with the sentiments of the applicants. To prove their efforts and to increase the no. of referred candidates sometimes they forward the interview call without even going through the resumes and after reaching at the venue, desiring applicants see that this post was not for them. We should rely only upon the trusted networks.

Yes, I agree with WE.
But we cannt expect all the HR consultants to function with highest degree of standard. This scenario is there in all industry. If you want to get the help of consultants in recruitment, you must know the quality of the services they provide. Its important for us to screen the consultants based on the professional service they provide. I think not all of them are rubbish. There are Recruitment consultancies who provide professional solutions with high degree of standard. Hope you will agree to my point.

Shijit.

Hi White Eagle,
I totall agree with your views and comments and the way you have projected the entire issues. It is really high time that we should look forward to correct and entire system.
AT time these recruitment firms call for 1st round of interview with them and you find that the person took interview is below par as per with knowledge of your expectation and they might reject you on the basis they only know , so a bright cnadidate gets rejected then and there.
you will find a lot of posting in leading job portails has poor Job description and company Profile mentioned and the contact number mentioned is never working by these below average recruitment consultants.

Dear White eagle,

Nice name, Thank you for your views, views from HR which is a part of organizations/teams/group that exist in our country to achieve a pre determined objective.No.1- Please do not apologize for telling the truth as seen by you and also by your group. Be proud to be a white eagle, Lord Krishna's vehicle

"Team of unqualified workforce" - You will agree with me that a fresh MBA is no better than a +2 kid when work life experience is compared; Learning on the job and getting results - the velocity depends on the hunger for the reward (closure of position and taking the cash incentive and salary); I have noticed that there is no difference in having an MBA doing head hunting or searching portals when compared to graduates- If some one does not earn incentive they normally leave for pastures where they do not need to face the truth about their efficiency about picking new skills everyday - it is not wrong to have a young boss, what is wrong about being interviewed by a young person who is capable

Normally CVs are picked up depending on the JD which is conveyed over the phone; Very few organizations send us written JDs; The HODs who want manpower do not give JDs to HR (Manpower Requisition Form - bare details filled up by HOD due to time constraint!!) hence HR has to cook up JD and informs the consultants (Pl. touch your heart and say how many organizations have professional JDs for their employees) - part of the ingredients will not make full food, no?

Most of our organizations do not work professionally - date for interview is conveyed just 1 day before- a candidate who is really desperate for change attends the interview without polishing his presentation skills as stronger candidates weighs the probability of success in the interview , taking a risk (leave ) feeling that they can continue in their present drudgery longer as known devil is better than an unknown angel - HR is angry that good quality CVs came, but poorly fitting personnel turned up for interview - HR is not willing to own up to the fact of 1 day notice period for interview

Working professionally- the way HR makes our candidates wait, even at GM level, sometimes the basic courtesy of serving water is not observed- candidate ring us up - have to tender apologies and smoothen the ruffled feathers - the less said about the arrogance of HR when they are in a strong position in the organization- the same HR growling to us when their position is threatened- you will feel sick if some truth is told

Maturity of our HR personnel - one guy says meow on the phone, sometimes dishum, dishum on the phone when we request for appointment; can tell you number of unprofessional behaviors, but that will be not be needed as we employees can be more professional

I know truth hurts, but truth is truth - will ask all our recruiters to pull up their socks- please throw out the consultants if their success rate is low - hope you will implement this

Let’s thrash things out in the open and be more professional – let’s not take things personnel

Warm regards

M

PS: Please do post your views – I do apologize for making you to face the truth

Bravo Mahalakshmi!

From the sound of your reply, language used and insights, you come across a mature HR professional. White Eagle's observations are amateurish and arrogant. The so called corporate HR need to learn a lot about HR in the real world which is not taught in the books they study in Half baked Business schools.

The Corporate HR needs to be competent enough to choose the consultants carefully. If they can not do that than the blame lies on their heads for failing to choose competent consultants.

The Corporate HR may be the most unwanted post within their organisations as they are under constant need to prove their utility to the organization and contribute to the bottomline.

In recruitment consultants they find someone they can boss on and ill treat as they have been ill treated in their own organizations. A little power over the consultants goes to their heads and they show how thoroughly incompetent and insensitive they are !

The corporate HR needs to face the truth about their low self esteem and incompetence.

Get mature White Eagle!

Dear Mahalakshmi,

Thanks for your views and suggestions. I totally agree with your views that there are loopholes in corp. HR side also and I request all HR family to look into this. Our basic purpose behind taking help of recruitment consultants is that we well get right match as per our requirement in a short time. We believe that recruitment consultant will provide us best matching candidate from the pool of great candidates. But sorry to say because of poor show of recruitment consultants they prospective candidates do not show interest in opening and we get resume of best candidate out of pool of worst candidates (acc. to requirement).

I agree that some org. do not provide proper JD's. Is it not the responsibility of consultant that they ask for proper JD's and more specific details? If they feel that something is missing or they require more information or clarifications. Why don't they ask for it? It's better to ask for more details and clarifications rather than giving excuse afterwards.

I agree that there is time challenge but now days in most cases good org. is ready to give 2-3 day time for interview. Practically in most scenarios it is not possible to give more time. If candidate is interested then I don't think he require more than this time. Now day’s co’s are ready to schedule interviews in early or late office hour's So that there is no need of taking full day leave for candidates. Good orgs value the time of candidate's and take interview on priority. I request all HR's to see that in any case candidate must not have to wait for interview otherwise it will spoil the image of org.

I hope HR and consultants will do there part professionally so that it will be win-win situation for all. Once again lakshmi thanks for your views.

Dear Good HR Associates,

Thanks for your genuine and straight views. According to you all MBA universities are useless and those studying there are worthless. There is no need of gaining learning from books and collages. Then I don't know why govt. is investing show much for bookish study and pvt. org. running for campus recruitments.

"Corporate HR may be the most unwanted post"- good joke. Co's gone out of mind that’s why they had created this post and according to you all corp. HR are incompetent and fools. Why then all people are interested in this unwanted post. It is not chance, it is choice which lead to destiny and I hope you know if you give people choice where they will go (Corp. or Rec. consultancy’s)

I am sorry if you have to face rude HR professionals in your day to day office life. I request all professional to maintain respect and human dignity. We can not manage people, we can only lead them.

Get mature White Eagle! - If telling truth is immaturity? If informing loopholes is immaturity? And giving feedback is immaturity? (So that we improve our performance and grow) Then I am immature and I will love to remain immature.

Thanks mature Good HR Associates for your views and forgive me for my views.
