In my plant, I am the single employee for Personnel, HR, and Training departments. Personnel and HR are okay, but Training and Development are new to me. I need the help of all seniors and existing Citehr members. Please give me some materials to understand training and development and also guide me on how to conduct training programs for employees and on which topics. Please suggest!

Dear Marut,

Please note the following:

a) Training is conducted to bring about organizational change. Therefore, your focus should be on the organization and not on individuals.

b) Employee training is only a medium and not an end in itself. The end result should be the reduction of some costs that the organization incurs in the course of its operations. If not costs, then be clear about which ratio you would like to increase or decrease.

c) The measurement of training effectiveness is the comparison of costs before and after the training. The difference represents the ROI on training.

d) Any training that does not reduce costs or increase/decrease some ratio is ineffective.

e) The job of a Training/HR professional is not just about delivery or presentation skills, but also about studying/understanding the systems and processes to identify where and how revenue leakage is occurring. Your training efforts should be directed towards plugging that leakage.

Hi mart, Adding to the above points of our esteemed professionals, you can think of developing a skill matrix for your organization based on which you can organize training for identified skill gaps.

HELLO MARUT,
Plenty of information is cited above.
To understand T&D you must begin with Training Need Analysis.
If you are new to this also try to read material posted in Cite HR.
Type “Training & Development” inside the box WHAT DO YOU NEED
that you find in the title bar right above.
After typing in the box, press the 'research' button next to it.
You will get lot of information.
You can also refer "Related Information" and 'Download Thread'
that you find in the right side of this message.
Repeat the process for ‘Training Need Analysis’ or any other topic of your choice.
Begin in a small way first, taking the guidance of your seniors in the plant.
