Yes, the Notice Period is for both the parties, however, that is only in case of performance issues. On the contrary, if the company is terminating you for Insubordination, Theft, or misrepresentation of facts, then the termination is with immediate effect without any notice period.

It will depend upon the terms of your appointment.Normally such type of agreement can be terminated by either party by equal period of notice or pay in liue thereof. Please re-check the relevant clause in your appointment letter /service agreement if any.

Hi,
Most of the company's tends to seperate employees without giving notice. In such case, the termnation has to be notified that they will have to pay you for the month. It is vice-versa, that you have to buy the notice period in terms if you wish to leave. Therefore, systematically both will be benefitted.

Hi JB,
Employment is an contract /treated like an promise where in the conditions are laid for both the parties(Employer and employee)
In case of termination of employment,if its voluntary resignatyion form the employee ,he has to serve the stipulated notice period or pay salary in lieu of the notice period.
On the Employer End: if he is terminating the employment(like in case of layoffs/OR any reason where its not because of employee's fault) then simillarly the employer also has to abide by the same rules that is notice period or salary in lieu of the notice period.
If the employer is terminating the employment of the employee of grounds of-unethical behaviour/harrassment, theft etc then in this case the employment can be terminated with immediate effect and the employer need not give the employee any notice period or salary in lieu of....
I hope this is clear...............
Thanks & Good Day,

There are certain cases where the employee can be relieved immediately. You will be paid till your last day in the organization and not till your anticipated last day (end of notice period).
