Hi!
1. For projects in other states, you may apply for a sub-code number furnishing full details of the project, to the Regional Director of the concerned state (addressees are available in the web site esic.nic.in/directory), duly enclosing a copy of your main code coverage intimation letter. The particulars required are, name and location with postal address of the project, name, address and phone number of the in-charge, nature of work carried on, number of employees (within the wage ceiling limit and above ceiling limit), where records are maintained, and produced for inspection. If the Accounts like General Ledger etc. are maintained at HO or at a different location its details, and any other relevant information. On receipt of this letter, the concerned Regional will allot to the project office, a sub-code number and a branch office for submission of declaration forms and returns. Use the sub-code no. in all the correspondence, returns and challans for that project.
2. In case of projects, within the State in which your main unit is located, you may write to the concerned Regional Director on similar lines.
3. If any of these projects are located in an area where the ESI Scheme is not in force (non-implemented area), You may apply for exemption of these employees under Section 88 of the Act. In most of the States, Govt. had already issued notification exempting such kind of employees. If there is such a notification in any State, you need not apply for a specific exemption of your employees. a simple intimation to the Regional Office, and maintenance of a register with the details of employees working in non-implemented areas is suffice. For all such employees you are required to take a policy under workmen's compensation Act.
4. If you do not take a separate code, and make a combined compliance, it is difficult for registration of employees under ESI in their respective areas and submission of returns to the relevant branch. The employees may not be able to avail the medical and cash benefits at their place of work.
Hope the above clarifications will meet your requirement.
