Dear All,
We are providing mediclaim facility to all the employees and their family members. However, I am unsure whether the liability under the Workmen's Compensation Act exists or not.

Dear Ramakanth,
A mediclaim policy is a personal insurance policy for healthcare for an individual and family members to cover medical expenses related to unexpected diseases.
An Employees' Compensation insurance policy is taken out by the employer to be indemnified against the liability of paying compensation to a certain class of employees in the event of employment accidents.
Therefore, the scope and purpose of these two types of insurance policies are entirely different. Merely funding mediclaim policies for your employees does not absolve you from the obligation to take out insurance under the Employees' Compensation Act, 1923. Failure to do so would result in bearing the full burden of compensation and medical expenses in the event of employment accidents involving any of your employees.
Additionally, while your mediclaim policy may cover medical expenses, it does not extend to compensation for disabilities resulting from such accidents.

You need to take a Group Personal Accident policy from an Insurance Company. GPA covers the accident as well as expenses. Every employer should enroll their employees under a Group Personal Accident policy. It is a very beneficial policy.
