Hello Seniors,

I Perused BBA & MPM....where as I am having the experience in working with service industry it was private firm actually and roll given to me was Admin.....after that I decide To be with HR field and left that job to fully concentrate MPM.......right now I got selected from campus interview it was again a service industry....Being an HR I wont disclose its name....

in this company they have given me the post of trainee in first month which will convert in to "HR & Admin officer" when I will complete my induction as well as training period which is 6 month.........the criteria is " if only they have to found my performance satisfactory"...........In induction they pay 7000/- and in training 9000/-.......Actually money doesn't matter for me...what matter is whole HR learning......Here my KRA is only related with Admin area....nothing to deal with recruitment, payroll, any legal aspect, training, motivation......

So what should I do Seniors......Should I leave it and look for another........as because being an HR,even though I gain 1 year experience here & when i will go for another opportunity they will definitely going to Ask me my KRA...which is only related with admin.........

Please reply me what should I do....?

Hi Suchita

Sorry for my ignorance but can you let me know what is MPM?

Congratulations firstly to have bagged a job in the very job crunching scenario. And all the best for your job role.

One of the most important quality that an HR needs in his/her job role is patience. How long are you in this job? I presume 1 month from my understanding of your post. Kindly correct if I am wrong or have misunderstood.

Now as you said your to-be designation on completion of your induction and training is of HR and Admin.

Admin activities are comparatively easier it seems but in fact they are not that way.

When I joined my organization as HR some 8 months back, I started purely with HR and now slowly I am also sharing responsibilities of Admin. Not because they find me doing nothing most of time but because they saw I have techniques to work and can manage things well.

Do one thing. Ask your senior about your role plan. How are they planning to train you and how would they slowly shift your from just admin to admin + HR role.

To be little honest, HR and Marketing are practical things, while Finance is theoretical. What I mean to say is a Finance person can be productive in a few day's time as all he need to do is revise the sections and brush up the fundamental formulae. In HR and Marketing, we need to understand that the theory we read in books are very idealistic and we would need practical training to handle situations. There would be some new situations emerging every time.

As per my view, I still feel sit with your senior and share your delima about how are you to proceed.

All the best again.

Thank you Ankita for your reply......MPM is a "Master in Personnel Management" its different from MBA, subjects are little bit similar but MPM is 2 years HR specialized course only................ Coming 2 the point its 1 month over be work with here, in this 1 month I have not only analyse the overall environment ankita also contacted previous employees....You wont believe 3 girls who were working here left their job at a same day only..which created our requirement...where as they(Boss) told me the reason which was general behind it........( when I personally contact them I got to know) that according to them the boss is not at all supportive & a demotivator....that is the reason I felt that Its better for me as I left it earlier......I know our profession require so much patience........but we can work & can grow with supportive environment na.....now there is only me a girl who working over here...with inadequate facilities like without fan and all.....even though I discussed with them they never take us seriously which was the complaint of previous employees also...

Dear Suchita,

It is indeed a task to work under a non-supportive boss.

Being into HR educate your boss that it is his responsobility to provide workable environment. Tell him that there are certain basic requirements that are to be fulfilled and obliged by and if not, and if someone complains to the labour officer, tell them they would be in the boiling waters.

Secondly, when it comes to talking to employees and employer there will always be a blame game. Employer will say some story to blame it on employees and other way round. However, as we too are employees we just give over emphasis to all our staff and ignore the fact that there can be other way to perceive things.

HR being the communication link, it is very much possible that both employees and employer will try to make you in their team, however you should be fair and know what is in and out of all.

Again let me warn you that the job market is very very weak outside so it is not advisable to resign from here and then seek another job.

At the same time if you start seeking job while on this job, people will ask you why you wish to switch at such short duration.

Another way out is to seek job and hide this employment for time being. But resigning before getting a job is highly not advisable in this job crunching situation.

Take the situation at your firm as challenge and learn from it. Perhaps you may get good exposure for your future reference.

There is not much to add, as Ankita has responded adequately; while pointing out the solutions and pitfalls.
I would just like to point out the difference between HR and Admin jobs. In small companies or small set up, both are clubbed together as a department; though at the operation level they may be handled by different people.
At FUNCTIONAL OPERATIVE LEVEL; HR requires a specialised study and under Factories Act, those working as Labour Welfare Officer need to have recognized degrees; whereas Admin. can be handled by any graduate.
Admin becomes a specialized job at senior level, in big companies especially in IT and ITES companies; where the Operation is manpower-intensive; or in Hospitality where services are the basis of operation; etc.
A beginning and longer tenure as an ADMIN person; may restrict the career choices in the LONG RUN, given today's scenario, if one wants to join in HR deptt.
Warm regards.
