hello All, I m doing my summer internship and helping my HR consultant with setting up a complete HR dept for my Co. Can somebody help me out with wht shud i start first with??

Congrats and All the Best. To start with Prepare an Employee handbook (I have attached one sample - Courtesy to one fellow CiteHr ian)
Do some Opinion Survey in the organization. Take the inputs from them and try to see what best you can do to answer them.

i have started with job description of the employees out there. Employee out there do not know tht i m an HR. they think i m a student and working on a project and hence were quite free in talking to me and discussing their matters as well as their profiles with me...

Thats a good news. I have heard about HR professionals breaking their head in how to make their employees feel free to appraoach them. You have a very good oppurtunity. Always make the Employees feel that they are the boss. Be a people's man. It will take you to places. With regards to the handbook i have already attached in my previous posting. But I have one question in an organization where we are beginning to start up the HR function should the setting up of various Processes & Policies happen first..then going ahead with th hand book.
