Dear all,
I am working with an IT solutions company where we have 6 days working.Now I have been asked to redesign HR policies,I want to ask that reducing 6 days working to 5 days working will really help? will it increase productivity??????,as per my discussions with our employees, most of them are not happy working on Saturdays.So if we reduce it to 5 days working, will it help or it will have adverse effects?????????

Employee productivity does not depend only on number of weekdays. It also depends on employee's skill, knowledge, motivation, work culture, knowledge management etc. There is so much hidden expenditure involved, that management generally does not take into account.
What you are concentrating on is only the tip of the iceberg? What about the bottom portion of iceberg?

I would recommend Archana to design measures of performance and then shift to 5 day work week. Therefore, number of days of the week will not matter.
Productivity depends on workplace communication, coordination and so on. Let me reiterate that number of working hours is only a part of it.
Doing more or producing more by consuming less working capital is a major challenge for any organisation and this does not depend alone on the number of working hours.

we can easily evaluate productivity in a biscuit production company but in a knowledge company or creative industry, benchmarking productivity and scientifically evaluating productivity is very difficult but it is possible.

You can reduce the workweek to 5 days, but what of the "lost" hours of productivity?
I my experience, reducing the workdays and adding increased hours per shift; along with an additional refresher break (3, instead of 2, 10 minute breaks during the shift, as well as 1-30 minute lunch period), should produce increased morale which will lead to increased productivity and quality.
Employees will be more refreshed with 2 days rest; have more family time; save communter costs. The company will realize savings from based on the lack of utility usage.

Is there a required minimum work hour as stipulated in the Employment Act of your country? You might have to conduct a feasibility study that incude a pros & cons before making the change.

Dear seniors,
I am Padma from Hyderabad and am working as an intern in an MNC, it is far from my home lets say 6 kilo meters but everyday I am wasting 3 to 4 hours on travel due to traffic jam and I need to be on time as am working in HR training&development but I never reached my office on time from the first day and even I have told my boss to give me flexible hours for 4days as long as it needs and I wanted friday, saturday, sunday as week off's as I need to go to my collage and study for the weekend and friends blah blah... But the Hr rules were not at all flexible and new. So the thing is my boss could not help me but ma boss gives me grace time to come to the office but in India mostly the companies calculate how much time you were at the office not the work you have done. I sincerely request every HR or every HR practitioner please make sure about your employees satisfaction other wise no productivity will come.
So please try to concentrate on these points:
1. Job satisfaction
2. Working hours flexibility with valid reasons but productivity must seen
3. Family time to refresh their minds (employees never should think work as a burden)
4. Financial reward when the time comes of excellence
5. Complete growth of their career (unbiased)
6. Inter-relationships between the team heads and the trainees(let them feel free to express their views not their regrets)
7. Unity between the employees as a human how they were treating each other or any conflicts happening?
These are my view's if we want to discuss there are many points that comes into the lime light of Industrial relationships.

As I have joined a company am coming across many things and realizing how to do in the future actions.
It's a good experience to work in my company, am lucky to have the best boss to whom am reporting with.
Am really lucky to have her and she let's me learn something everyday.
